This cemetery belongs to Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic parish, which is based in Seaford, DE. The parish covers a vast geographical area and has a huge congregation, today comprised of around 1000 registered families, and many more non-registered parishioners and families. However, far from everyone interred in this cemetery was either a member of the parish or necessarily even Catholic. And, unlike most cemeteries, where people are buried in their own home community, many of these decedents were from all throughout Sussex Co. (primarily from Seaford and Laurel) and adjacent parts of Maryland, as this was, for most of the cemetery's existence, the only Catholic cemetery in Sussex Co. and neighbouring rural Maryland. (It is long-standing tradition for practicing Catholics to be buried in Catholic cemeteries, rather than in public cemeteries [though not all practicing Catholics maintain that tradition]. By association, many non-Catholic or non-practicing-Catholic immediate family members get buried with them.) I mention this as only a small percentage of decedents interred in this cemetery were Blades residents. A fair number were Methodist or of other faiths. Below, any surname appearing in ALL CAPS indicates that that name occurs as both a surname at time of death and as one or more woman's known maiden name. Any surname appearing in parentheses indicates that the name occurs either as a maiden name or as part of a double last name (as is common with the Latino population). In a few instances, I've similarly listed a man's middle name that normally would be considered strictly a last name, as that may suggest that it was a mother's maiden name.
