    1. [DESUSSEX] Cooper/Htichens
    2. I am also looking for a COOPER. My ggrandmother was Dora Elizabeth HITCHENS. She was married about 1899 to George BRITTINGHAM. She came to the marriage with a daughter Willey M. COOPER. I dont know which COOPER she was married to. I just recently obtained a copy of her death certificate. She lived in Wilmington Delaware at the time of her death. She was born 27 Mar 1879 and d 21 JAN 1924. She died of Acute Uremia contributory Cebral Hemorage and secondary Nephritis. It appears she died about a block from her home. Not sure if this meant she was enroute to a store or visiting when stricken. According to her Death Certificate, her parents are George HITCHENS and Wilhemina SHUMAN. Have come across information on a George "Washington" Hitchens. Not sure if that is my gggrandfathers middle name but Dora gave birth to 2 sons one of the was John Washington BRITTINGHAM so it would solve the mystery of where the name Washington came from. Have always assumed it is someone's Mother's maiden name and started being handed down through the generations. There are many BRITTINGHAMS with the middle name of WASHINGTON. All of this death certificate information was a wonderful find. I have known next to nothing on Dora til now. So now I have discoved a new set of ggrandparents as well as the surnames for the ggggrandparents to work on. Would like to find siblings and the name of Mr. COOPER. Also on the 1900 census Dora says she is the mother of 3 children and 3 are still living at that time. However, she only lists Helen L BRITTINGHAM born in 1900 and Willey M COOPER b. 1894, third child is not listed. Since Dora is only around 19-21 in 1900 their is no chance of having a child old enough to live on their own.Wandering if divorce was an option, or when she was widowed and did she have a son with Mr. COOPER who stayed with Mr. COOPER. Dora was from the Delmar Delaware/Delmar Maryland area and when she died her body traveled by train to Delmar for Burial. I believe there is a Hitchens burial ground in Sussex County but Im not sure if she is there or if that is her family. So I also looking for that information. If anyones knows of the family cemetary please let me know. I havent signed on to the "Hitchens " surname list for Rootsweb yet but I will be very soon. Hope someone can help me fill in some blanks.
