We traced our family back through Charlton Smiths to a John who came to the "New World" in the mid 1600's. This Charlton who married Ann Marvel is my fourth great grandfather: his son William Smith, Sr., who married Polly Johnson; Chalton Smith who married Mary Ann Macklin; William Henry Smith who married Mary Ellen James; Frank Sanford Smith who was my grandfather, Hiel Thomas Smith who was my father.
