Isaac's second wife Margaret may not have been born surnamed "John". Their marriage bond, evidently written by Samuel Basnett (who was the bride's surety), states that Margaret Rice was "daughter of John" with the "John written in very faintly. Did Samuel Basnett mean she was daughter of John Basnett, or of a John Rice? These are equally possible. Thus far no one has come forward with a parental probate record that could clear up Margaret's birth identity. Isaac Davis and Margaret and family (hers and theirs) moved to Pleasants Co., WV, where they were neighbors to the family of Isaac's cousin (on both of their mothers' sides), Hynson C. Poynter.
