The following passage was published in 1994 in a booklet titled "Recipes and Remembrances of Woodland" by the Woodland Ferry Association. I am quite certain that the Will Knowles referred to in it was my great-grandfather, Willard Saulsbury Knowles. Can anyone tell me precisely where the former Woodland Post Office - now a residence - is located? Does anyone know of historic, or even more recent, photos of it existing? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. I know generally where my ancestor Willard lived, though his specific residence was never pointed out to me. Here's the book description: "The Woodland Post Office was constructed in the mid 1800's as a one-story one-room house. Trees, forming the floor joists, run the width of this old house. Seemingly, several families 'set up housekeeping' here in what was once known as the Johnson home. A second story was added on in 1947, and while working on this addition, Mr. Will Knowles stepped on a rusty nail, developed lockjaw, and died a painful death. In 1986, this home was purchased...by Ken and Donna Hastings Angell...." I believe the 1947 reference in the above excerpt to be in error, and that the correct year was 1936. If any feedback, please feel free to e-mail me directly at Genplant29@aol.com . If doing so, please put "Woodland, DE Post Office location" in the Subject line of your message. Thanks! Sincerely, Dave Wilson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
