Lovey, Robert M., Josiah, Elizabeth, Mary A., Maria H., Henry H. and Nancy E. Robert was born in 1801 and Josiah in 1808. They must have also had Chalton, born in 1806, which makes sense. But I think some of the kids you listed were Josiah's kids. Can you check your records again and let me know. I have William Smith, Sr. dying in 1846 so perhaps Mary married again to have the younger children? What I am really hoping to find is what happened to Chalton's son, William, born in 1834. The reason being is I'm trying to find out who Sally Smith (daughter of John and Amelia Smith) who was born in 1832 in Nanticoke married. She was 18 in 1850 and living with her family. In 1860 she was living with her family with two children born in 1857 and 1859. She is listed as a widow. I went through all of the Smith boys in Nanticoke around her age and I've eliminated all who were in the 1860 census. There are only two boys that I! can't find. One was Chalton's son, William. The other is William and Tabitha Smith's son, Samuel. We cannot find death records without names but I was hoping I could find something. Thanks and let me know if anything above rings bells! I believe this information will be of general interest to you and to anyone else with roots in the Seaford area: "All land in current western and southern Sussex County was first settled as part of Maryland. Seaford, along with Bridgeville, Greenwood, Middleford, and others, were all part of Dorchester County in the Province of Maryland. Blades, Laurel, and Concord areas, on the other hand, were part of Somerset County. The area shows a definite link with the British Isles. The majority of the settlers into the Seaford area came from England; but Ireland, Wales, and Scotland are well represented. It is reported that an error in a map coordinate resulted in the east-west line of Delaware being from current Delmar to Fenwick. The original agreement had the east-west line at the Cape Henlopen, not at the false cape. If the line had survived, Seaford would now be in Maryland. After many years in the courts of London, the boundary lines are as the surveyors Mason and Dixon defined in 1763. "The first record of any settlement in the area around Seaford was a very large tract of land identified as "Martin's Hundred". This 1,750 acre plot of land, bordered by the Nanticoke river and Herring Creek, was granted to Jeremiah Jadwin of Virginia on January 22, 1672. Despite development in the area, the river was the main highway for many years. It wasn't until 1720 that roads began appearing in court records. The primary industry of the area was agriculture, particularly the cultivation of tobacco, and the style of living was plantation. In addition to agriculture, however, evidence suggests that the area east of where Seaford now resides was a very busy bog iron area." Happy hunting! Dave Wilson PS: I know that Seaford was officially incorporated as a "city" (as opposed to a town) in 1865. It's never been even REMOTELY a "city," though. (I was born there later.) Meanwhile, all my elder sibs (to as early as 1943) were born in the hospital in Milford, Sussex Co. I believe that was the norm for deliveries of Seaford babies to at least that far back. (Milford and Salisbury are similar distances from Seaford, though Milford may be five or so minutes closer.)I know that EARLIER (than 1943), Seafordians (at least all the ones in my family) went to the Beebe Hospital in Lewes for their medical care. My great-grandfather who got tetanus (lockjaw) in 1936 was transported there. I know of various other early family cases of going to the hospital in Lewes for medical care, though I don't know when the hospital in Milford opened, which would have been significantly closer to the Seaford area. At any rate, the hospital in Seaford opened at somem point during the 1950s, and people went to Milford or Lewes for medical ca! re, in every known case in my family, prior to then.
