It could have been drawn as a survey to show boundaries in context of a court suit (possible boundary conficts or dispute regarding how much of a tract was sold by X to Y). Or it could have been drawn in the context of an estate matter, showing lands either bequeathed to or to be divided by heirs of Z. There are other possibilities. Such plats could save someone some trouble using a mapping program to show adjacent lands, with metes and bounds taken from the original tract surveys or from recorded deeds. You can find out more on the original ownership process of the tracts at the archives of Maryland's web site. There is a cumbersome tract index as well as some information on original warrant surveys. You can trace land ownership through the MD Archives' on-line deeds, too, at www.mdlandrec.net (register to get a password). If you were to post a scan someone might be able to tell you more. I wasn't able to see any connection in it other than the name Zadock--the other names in the will are not familiar. I do know that there was another Zadock Evans b. abt. 1780 in Sussex County, DE and he stayed in DE. I think the will refers to that particular Zadock. The family in that will, including Daniel and his son Zadock are referenced in a family history book that came out in 2002 called Letters to the Little Ones. I spoke with the author of that book, Gordon Evans Wood, and he could not place my Zadock. My Zadock was in OH by 1820 and the other Zadock was still in DE. Thank you for your response though--it's nice to know someone is out there listening and trying to help. Anything further you could find would be appreciated. By 1820 he lived in Guernsey County, Ohio and he died about 1852 in Belmont County, Ohio. According to cemetery records, his wife's first name was Arcada. He had at least ten children--six of whom I've identified: Mary b. abt. 1802 DE; Lydia b. abt. 1806 DE; William b. abt. 1810 DE; Catharine b. abt. 1812 DE; Samuel b. abt. 1821 OH; Zadock Ellis b. 1824 OH. In 1824 Mary married a Thomas Burcher (who was also from Delaware) in Ohio. The other children married in Ohio to these families: Yarnall, Merrill, VanDyke, Parsons and Miller. I'm new to DE research and cannot pin down where in Delaware Zadock was from or what his wife's maiden name was. Anyone with information please write. Thank you. The cemetery is surround by steel fencing & is somewhat cared for. There is about 7 markers total. Most markers are very worn. One visible name was Mary Morris, d/o John & Mary, wife of Jonathan Wilson. Most markers would have to be rubbed/traced to get names & dates. 2- Conway/Conaway Cemetery; Also located within the boundaries of the Prime Hook wildlife refuge. On the main road leading towards the visitor center you will see a recycle area on the right. Next to it is a path leading into a wooded area. The cemetery is about 200 yards from the recycle area. I did not record any names. Directions to Prime Hook; >From Lewes. Take Route 1 north to Rt. 16 (Broaadkill Rd.)Turn right at light(East), go about 2 miles & you will see the main entrance to the refuge on the left(Possibly Turtle Pond Rd.), go left. Kendall and Penelope moved to Philadelphia shortly after marring and had a son Richard Wesley Stewart who died in infancy. They also had a son John Stewart. Penelope Wesley was born ca. 1800 in Lewes and died September 15, 1880, in Philadelphia, PA. Penelope is the daughter of Richard Wesley, who was born 1770 In Lewes, Del. and died September 3, 1821 along with his sons George, John and Samuel when their boat sank off of Cape Henelopen. All told Richard Wesley and his wife Ann had 7 children. The remaining three being Richard, Elizabeth and Anna. The Penelope Stewart you found in the 1850 - 1870 census is Penelope Stewart nee Wesley (also spelled Westley in some records). I have proff positive in family documents.
