Hello List, I am planning a small excursion this weekend and hope to find some cemeteries that I have not visited before. We will be concentrating on the area south-east of Georgetown, DE. If anyone knows of small (or large) cemeteries in this area please to share your knowledge with me. I have been to Union Cemetery in Georgetown, Redmens Cemetery in Millsboro and Bethesda Methodist Church Cemetery, near Stockley, Lewes & Coolspring, Epworth Cemetery in Rehoboth and Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery, south of Georgetown, but I'm sure there are a myriad of others that I have missed. Thanks for your help, Parker
Is there a webpage that tells old occupations? Donnagene

Looking for info on William L. Gordy--listed in 1870 census as 78 years . Married to Elizabeth--65 at time of census. Both are listed as original members of St Pauls Methodist church, just outside of Laurel, Del.The list of Trustees at this time included Nathaniel Wootten, and Isaac Hearn.
Hi List: Seeking info of my mom's first husband: SAMUEL EDWARD COLE born in Cherry Hill (Cecil Co. ) Maryland in 1885 to James & Mary (nee Drennen) Cole. I know he married my mom CLARA GUSBERG in Aug. 1917 in Hartford CT., where they lived for a short while then they moved to Newark, DE. by June 1918 when Samuel had to register for the draft of WW-1. By 1919 the Coles were no longer living together. He had worked for the Curtis Paper Mill; was an officer in the Knights of Pythias; the Masons, a volunteer fireman in Newark and a member of the Methodist church. He died in 1943 and is buried in The Methodist Church Cemetery in Cherry Hill, MD. I would pay for a photo of him. [email protected]

In a message dated 9/26/2002 10:24:43 AM Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: (cut/pasted) - > My Hastings are the Quaker lot from Swerford, England > to Chester County, PA, 1679 or thereabouts. > > Kate Hastings > ------------------------------------------ I have just about come to the conclusion that the HASTINGS families in Delaware (almost exclusively with Old Testament names) must have derived from the lines in PA. Wm. Penn formed DE from the Lower Three Counties of PA in 1682. Pulled from 'Google' - Penn realized that much of the land to which he had been given a royal charter was held by the Delaware (Leni Lenape) Indians. Although the document has not survived, it is believed that in 1682 Penn signed a treaty with the natives who occupied the land paying them a fair value for its use by settlers. Voltaire wrote, "It was the only treaty made by the settlers with the Indians that was never sworn to, and the only one that was never broken." Anyone pursuing Hastings in Delaware area want to discuss this or enlighten me pro or con? Kate - <[email protected]> Do have documentation on the Swerford Hastings? More than one Hastings family immigrate? How far is Swerford from Hastings in Sussex, England? Margaret Hastings Hendrix - Mostly searching DE/MD ca.1750 Obadiah (d.1820-30) HASTINGS et al. - 'Block Wall' - there are 'jillions' of Hastings families in DE in that era.
Hi List: Can anyone twll my where I can get pictures of former employees of the Curtis Brothers Paper Mill? Someone told me the town of Newark, DE. may have all the old records. [email protected]
Hi lists, I just received a copy of a death certificate, today, from: New York Department of Records & Information Services Office of the Commissioner 31 Chambers Street, Suite 305 New York, NY I also received a letter, with it, stating they have photographic records of every house & building from circa 1939-1941 in New York City. They go on to say, this would be a very unique gift for any one interested in genealogy - family history. If you have the exact street address and/or block & lot number for the building you will be able to order a photo. $25.00 for 8" x 10" $35.00 for 11" x 14" plus postage (high-quality black & white prints) I think this is really great that you can obtain a photo of the family home or business. If NYC is doing this you may want to look for other cities & towns across the US, who may have the same service available. :) To those of you who are interested in New York City & this service: Phone: (212) 788-8580 Website: www.nyc.gov/html/doris Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

Hello -- Can some please help me? I recently discovered the name of BASIL DERRY on the 1920 Delaware Census for Sussex County. He is listed as being 32 years of age with a wife and two children. His birth date would have been about 1888. He most likely connects with my husband's 4th great-grandfather, BAZIL DERRY (1786-1879). This is a surprising and brand new lead for me. Does anyone know anything about him? He doesn't show up on the 1930 Delaware Census. Thanks so very much! Joan Brown Derry [email protected]
<PRE>There is a chuch in Gumborough Hundred on Wootten Road in Sussex Co. that has an unused Methodist Episcopal Church called Bethasda Church. In the churchyard cemetery is the grave of ISAAC N. WOOTTEN who died Aug 26 1819 age about 87 years (c1732). According to Scharf's "History of DE," a group from this church migrated to NC and GA. Included in this/these groups were the Gordy ancestors of President Jimmy Carter's mother, Lillian Gordy.
