    1. [DESUSSEX] 1840 Callaway Family residing near Thomas and George Hearn's Mill Branch
    2. Hi All, I Am in need of Land Location, as per description of Plot Plan. My Callaway Family's 1840 Plot Plan, shows their land bound up to the "Jos and George Hearn's Mill Branch," of which Branch also adjoined to "Cannon's Mill Pond," in Sussex County, Delaware. According to the plot plan, their Land spanned both sides of: " The County Road to the Village of Laurel". To date, I would anticipate this description as being Route 13-A, as US 13 wasn't built until the 1940s. I am also lead to believe that the "Jos. & George Hearns Mill Branch," is the Dam west of 13-A in Seaford, Delaware, that had recently been rebuilt after a wash out last year. Can anyone add to this Jos. & George Hearn's Mill Branch - bounding up to Cannon's Mill Pond, in Sussex County, Delaware? My Ancestor's, John & Sarah (Sally) Callaway, resided their up to 1840, and Wingate Callaway owned land beside theirs, possible their son. Their Seven Siblings, according to the division's of land after John's Death, included my 3rd G. Grandmother: Sarah Emeline Callaway, Levi C. Callaway, William A. Callaway, Priscila A. Callaway married to Stephen Gordy, Levinia W. Callaway, Wingate M. T. Callaway, and John W. Callaway. Reply's to: John J. Zoch, Sr. Seaford, Delaware E-mail: [email protected]

I have no idea where Evan went but it seems he may have moved to WV. Sorry I can't be of anymore help but I have been stuck at a certain point in my own search for more than 2 years. Good Luck, Ken

    1. [DESUSSEX] Calloway and/or Drain/Drane and RUSSELL marriage record help
    2. Corleen Arrowood
    3. Someone abt. 6 months or so ago helped me with a marriage date for my ggg gf Jonathan Calloway who married Sarah Drain. A child of either Sarah or Jonathan or possibly both since the pension record from the Civil War for William H. Calloway shows he may have had two wives, one a Asenith/Seny Russell in MD/DE and an Elizabeth Totten in Plainfield, NJ; on one of the affidavits from his 'half-sister' Annie Calloway Vickers she states as him being her half-brother. I'm looking for help either/or any of these marriages in Sussex Co. DE A JONATHAN or JOHN CALLOWAY (any variant) marriage to anyone between the years 1830-1840. A SARAH UNKNOWN to any DRAIN/DRANE between 1830-1840. A WILLIAM H. CALLOWAY to a Asenith/Seny or ANY RUSSELL between 1850 and 1860. The pension record resulted in over 200 pages because of a dispute over who was the legal wife of William H. Calloway. No marriage record was located in MD for Wm. H. Calloway to Seny Russell, yet affidavits stated they were in fact married and had at least two children. After the Civil War was over he came home shortly and abandoned Seny and the children and went to Plainfield, NJ and married Elizabeth Totten. If further gives evidence by Elizabeth that he never told her he was married before. He swore under oath in his initial pension application that Seny died but she didn't. From what i gather it wasn't apparent to Elizabeth that e was married before until one of his children, a son, named William B. Calloway went to NJ to find him. After she found out she left him. There was a very involved dispute over who was actually the widow and who should receive the survivor's pension. Wm. H Calloway is either the brother of or half-brother of my gg gm Laura Calloway who married Benjamin Jones. (At least according to the Benjamin Jones family Bible as i've also never been able to locate a marriage record for them either. The Bible does list a date though. My Benjamin Jones was from Burlington Co., NJ and ended up in Dorchester Co. right after the Civil War.) Elizabeth Totten won out as Seny had died and NJ law at the time stated unless overwhelming evidence could be proved of a previous marriage, the current wife even though she had not lived with him for over 10 years was the widow and entitled to his pension. Sincerely, Corleen Arrowood Cumberland,MD

    2. Oops! I meant to send the previous to my daughter! While on the subject, I will say that my HASTINGS research in Salt lake lib. found most descended from New England families in 1600s. Hence, I thought perhaps mine had left the cold country to settle farther south (Delaware). Lately, I am of the opinion the Delaware Hastings families might have come in with Wm. Penn. Does anyone have anything to refute or corroborate? I've had corresp. with Hastings researchers with Quaker ancestors. Who has a spreadsheet that might be sent through email with all possible HASTINGS connections? (DE, PA, MD)

The following pertains to the Townsend information you so kindly sent me. Hi Gwen, What a wonderful surprise! Thank you so much for the information. I am relatively new to genealogy, so was wondering if your notation in the first line: Elias (5), Charles, (4), William (3), John (2), John (l) denoted each previous generation? If so, do you happen to have information regarding these predecessors? I have a copy of Elias' will and also Edith's father's will (John Collins- 1776). I have John, Hancock, Elizabeth, Mary, Andrew, Edy and Rachel as his children. To continue being presumptive, do you happen to know who John Collin's father was? There is a Capt. John Collins and his brother, Andrew who were mentioned on a deposition of Thomas Willin (Argo - I think) - in 1761. I have reviewed all the census' on Ancestry.com, but still can't seem to tie them all together. As for Edith Townsend and Henry Davis, I am descended from Robert Manlove Davis and Mary Jane Abbott (another line I haven't been able to penetrate) as well. Their son, Robert Alfred Davis is my great-grandfather. All of your work, and I do know it is time, effort and travel, should be rewarded, so if you have a charge for any material, I would be more than happy to reimburse you. Again, thank you so much and it is exciting for me to find someone attached to this line. Meg
