The children I have traced to Martin and Charlotte so far are: Martin (b. 1840 Gr.Calumet);Marie (b. Oct.5 1845 Le Rocher Fendu); Leon (b. April 28, 1846 Gr. Calumet); Toussaint (b.Feb. 4, 1849 Gr. Calumet); Felix (b. Aug. 29, 1853 Gr. Calumet); and Francois who was born at the Indian mission at Pembroke Ontario about 1840. It was not until I found the record of Francois's baptism that the family lore of our gr.gr. grandmother's 'Indian' or perhaps Metis origin made sense so I am curious to sound you out on this subject as you have records of their arrival in Canada. This suggests a Metis, rather than an entirely indigenous origin for the family, and the name Desjardins is listed among Metis living in this area. If you have found the marriage record for Martin ! and Charlotte or can shed any further light upon this lineage I would be delighted to hear from you.
