If you are interested in spending sometime in the Green Bay or Sturgeon Bay areas, your time would be well spent at the Special Collections on the Belgians at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, Cofrin Library. Also, the Brown County Library in Green Bay has a wonderful Genealogy department headed by Mary Jane Herber, thirdly, the Sturgeon Bay Library has a wonderful collection of newspapers of the area on microfilm, and, if they still have it, they had a book with the belgian people and the dates they appeared in the newspaper, so it is very easy to do the research. Also, the Bay Area Genealogy Society (Brown County) has much. Much of the Brown County Library items can be found online. I have a great deal of information already accumulated and researched and am hoping to connect some of the missing links and pieces that exist. If you connect with any of these families, please let me know, as perhaps we can fill in some missing details for one another! ALSO, I wondered if any of you have went to research the documents on file with any of the local historical societies, libraries, and/or the Mormon Church locally/in Brown County, Wisconsin or elsewhere? If so, I am interested in learning of information or documentation that can be found by visiting any of these locations, to determine the value of time put into doing just that. Thank you! Author: MRosca Surnames: Desjardins, Bourgette Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.desjardins/398/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to find out more about Fred Desjardins. Fred is the husband of Lucie Bourgette. He is also the eldest son of Pierre Desjardins and Julie Levesque. In the 1910 US Census he comes up with his in-laws. However I have no idea where he is in 1900 because he does not come up on the census with his family. He was born abt 1883 according to census records and he is infact Pierre and Julie's son according to marriage records. However I have yet to locate his where abouts in about the time of the 1900 USA Census. I know all of his siblings at this time are in Madawaska at home. His older sister Genevieve is in Grand Isle working for the Morneault family. However I can't find his whereabouts. I may be overlooking something. Can someone out there maybe point me in the right direction. Thanks ahead of time. :-) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Pierre was the husband of Julie Levesque. I've estimated his death to be sometime between 1920 and 1930 however that's just based purely on assumptions. Pierre was the son of Amable Desjardins and Marie-Genevieve Ouellette. Pierre emigrated to Madawaska Maine from Canada in the 1850s. Together they had 9-Children [Genevieve, Flavie, Frederick, Paul, Louis, Felix, Alexis, Annie and Marie]. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Charlotte. Martin Desjardins Jr. (Elizabeth's brother) was my gr. gr. gr. grandfather. As for aboriginal/Metis heritage, I also have some "suspicions" about that in my family tree. The information I have gives Martin's parents as Francois Desjardins and Veronique Leblanc. Francois's father was born in France, but his mother (Angelique Maisonneuve) was born in Quebec. I have no further information for her. Veronique's parents (Francois Leblanc and Catherine Aubin) were both born in Quebec, and I have no further information for them. Therefore, any Metis heritage would have to be in Maisonneuve, Leblanc, or Aubin. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: emopokey9 Surnames: Desjardins Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.desjardins/384.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am researching the same family as Elizabeth Desjardins is my great great grandmother and I believe she may be the daughter of Martin Desjardins and Charlotte Therrien though I have yet to find her baptismal record. The children I have traced to Martin and Charlotte so far are: Martin (b. 1840 Gr.Calumet);Marie (b. Oct.5 1845 Le Rocher Fendu); Leon (b. April 28, 1846 Gr. Calumet); Toussaint (b.Feb. 4, 1849 Gr. Calumet); Felix (b. Aug. 29, 1853 Gr. Calumet); and Francois who was born at the Indian mission at Pembroke Ontario about 1840. It was not until I found the record of Francois's baptism that the family lore of our gr.gr. grandmother's 'Indian' or perhaps Metis origin made sense so I am curious to sound you out on this subject as you have records of their arrival in Canada. This suggests a Metis, rather than an entirely indigenous origin for the family, and the name Desjardins is listed among Metis living in this area. If you have found the marriage record for Martin ! and Charlotte or can shed any further light upon this lineage I would be delighted to hear from you.
