Hi Bonnie My wife Pat's line descends from Bergholtz, north-east Germany. Her folks emigrated to N.Z. late 1870's or so. If that sounds possible let's know and we can certainly help each other Regards Bruce Drummond bdrum@xtra.co.nz ----- Original Message ----- From: Bonnie St.onge <bsstonge@yahoo.com> To: <DESJARDINS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 8:28 PM Subject: [DESJARDINS-L] Desjardins > Hi all, > I'm new to this list. Hi, Cheryl, My search is for my gg-grandfather Joseph who was born 1834-35 in Quebec, so not the same person as yours. Have you checked the DESJARDINS Family Forum at genforum.com? I've seen information similar to yours somewhere as I've made my own search, and I think that's where I saw it. If you aren't familar with Genforum, check it out. There's a search engine at each family surname list to make searching individual forums easier. Happy hunting! Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl L. I just HAVE to get into this thread! I am also researching a Joseph Desjardins....he was my great grandfather, born in St-Vincent de Paul, Laval, Quebec in 1848 and died in Chicago, Illinois in 1917. Cheryl Cass rnccass@essex1.com
Hi, I`m looking for information on two Desjardins marriages. Sorry, there is not much to go on, no place names or solid dates. The first one is a Napoleon Desjardins m. to Eulalie Bourdo or Boudreau. Eulalie died in 1930 at the age of 72, in New Bedford, Ma. she was the daughter of Etienne Bourdo and Marie Gould. The second one is Alphonse Desjardins m. to Marie Barcelou. Marie died in 1952 at the age of 84, also in New Bedford. She was born in Chambly, Quebec, the daughter of Moise Barcelou and Onezime Telineau. Thanks. > Do you know when/where they were married? > > Anne > Hello Anne....only information I have is taken from the "History or Argenteuil Quebec and Prescott, Ontario" p.305. about Samuel Webster "In his youth, he was clerk in the store of his uncle, Peter Spink, at St. Denis. In 1850, he married Amelia Gardner, and the same year he bought the lot at Cushing where he now lives." Difficult to know if he was still at St. Denis. when he married. Family conjecture is that Amelia may have been from Grenville but have nor been able to find her. Amelia was Catholic and Samuel Presbyterian. The first three children were all baptized in Notre Dame Des Sept Douleurs in Grenville where Amelia is referred to as Marie Louise Desjardins and also as Emilia DeJardin. All very confusing! On her tombstone she is Amelia Des Jardin. Any ideas? Thanks, Doreen
Hi, Doreen, Do you know when/where they were married? Am still looking for the birth and ancestors of my Amelia Gardner/ DesJardins born about 1834 in Quebec. She died 6 August 1870 in Cushing, Quebec. Her spouse was Samuel Webster. Hi, Glenn, When I saw your surname and your address on your message below, and wondered whether you can help me with one of my research blocks. I've been looking for the birth family and exact birthplace or parish of my gg-grandfather Joseph ROY dit DESJARDINS-GARDNER. He was born abt 1834-41 in French Canada (Quebec) and married Appoline/Pauline HUDON dit BEAULIEU/BOLIER in Maine in 1857, where Joseph died, supposed in 1883. Family tradition has it that his line came from reserved Indian lands in MI (go figure!) and that the tribe had been broken up and removed from their lands. I don't know whether the tribe was removed from MI or removed to there, though. I also don't know the tribe, but have been mainly looking at Ojibwe, Ottawa, Potawatomie and some eastern tribes. Although I have found Metis families and individuals in MI tribal lists, I've never been able to connect Joseph to any family there. I've also started checking WI and MN more recently, thinking that I needed to broaden my search. MN might be a connection, too, because the family of a Magloire COTE shared Joseph's farmland in Aroostook Co. Maine around 1880. Magloire and his wife Anastasie HUOT were married in MN. I have more information on the DESJARDINSs in Maine, and on the COTE's marriage, if this would be helpful. Any thoughts? Thanks, Anne Stefaniak, Mass. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenn L. Sorry Guys I had to "fix" something, HOPEFULLY. Donna
Hi everyone.....I think this was a good idea Donna. I have never been able to get anywhere with my great-grandmother and her family. I visited Quebec for the first time in April and found my great-grandparents tombstones in St. Andrew's East Protestant Cemetery. Amelia Des Jardin died Aug 6, 1870 aged 36 years I have a Xeroxed piece of paper out of a book which says 'History of Argenteuil' and the page no. is p.305. I found this in my dad's things. I have not been able to trace what book this is out of. In there it says in reference to my great-grandfather Samuel WEBSTER In his youth he was a clerk in the store of his uncle Peter Spink in St. Denis. In 1850 he was married to Amelia Gardiner and in the same year he bought the lot at Cushing where he now lives. Samuel WEBSTER died in 1913 so this book was obviously written before then. Samuel WEBSTER was a Presbyterian but I believe that Amelia DESJARDINS was Catholic. The first three children were baptized in Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs at Grenville. On 1of the baptismal records she is noted as 'Emilia Dejardin of this parish' and on the other 2 as 'Marie Louise Desjardins de cette parrroise'. So, what was her name, and where was she born and married? Very confusing! Oh how I wish I had listened to the stories my grandmother told me 50 years ago! In my mind I believe that she told me about relatives in Grenville and riding on horseback to see her uncles, one of whom had a funny name (or so I thought!). Is there anyone who has an Amelia???? Here's hoping...... Doreen Davidson, Salt Spring Island,BC Researching: CHILD, CRAFT, HOLLOWAY, JONES, POWELL.....Middlesex BROMBY, DAVISON, HUDSON, LINWOOD ...........E. Hi, Here is another site full of good information... http://members.tripod.com/fromwhence/antoine_the_infamous .htm Lorraine
Hi Donna, Yes, thanks, I have been to those websites, have been at my Desjardins research for quite sometime and have gathered alot of info. An excellent source of Roy dit Desjardins information is the book "Antoine Roy dit Desjardins (1635-1684) et ses descendants" by the Jesuit priest Father Georges Desjardins, (also descended from Antoine). This book is written in French and is available at the AFGS, http://www.afgs.org/ this is a great library in Woonsocket, R.I. a tremendous amount of research material is available there to members, and you can rent thru the mail. The PRDH site is great for records too, http://www.genealogy.umontreal.ca/en/public/RechEtatCivil Individu.asp Lorraine
