On January 7th Ancestry/Rootsweb announced that beginning March 2nd, 2020, they will discontinue their Mail Lists functionality.  Upon receiving this notice Paul L. LeBlanc immediately began searching for another website that could accommodate the mailing list format he uses on Rootsweb.  After much research, he determined Google Groups was the best option.  So he has created two new public Google groups: “Our Acadian Roots” and “Our Louisiana Roots”, which between them will consolidate 77 Acadian and Cajun, 10 uniquely Louisiana, many French surname, and 32 Louisiana Parish Lists.  The new consolidated Genealogy research/discussion groups will focus not only on Acadian and Louisiana ancestors, but also on "All Early French in North America". He died in Franklin Falls New Hampshire in 1902 at the age of 39 of pneumonia. My great grandfather Elie was his brother. DesJardins, 74, of Plain City, Ohio, passed away early Saturday morning, July 12, 2014 at The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. DJ was a teacher for 30 years in the Jonathan Alder School District. He was a remarkable man who had a profound impact on many of the lives he touched. He had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest. John loved being a teacher and shared many of his hobbies with his students. He was a skilled accordion player and taught many of his students how to play. John also loved to travel. Students still talk about his map games and how much they learned. His enthusiasm and character inspired many people. John was a completely devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and his wife Markie shared a love that was an inspiration to all who knew them. He is survived by his dear wife of 36 years, Markie (Kirby) DesJardins; children and grandchildren, Sean and Robyn DesJardins, Maxwell and Natalie; Richard Nolley, Hannah; Susie and Scott Haskins, Adam, Matthew, Emily and Ben; brothers and sisters: Ray and Judy DesJardins, Glen DesJardins, Marcia and Richard Stokes, Patsy Kirby. He is preceded in death by his brother Mark DesJardins and his parents Reverend Glen and Mae DesJardins. Friends may visit with family members at the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 202 E. Main St., Plain City; Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 202 N. It is very hard to read. On it are the words "CO, B, HATCH'S MINN. CAV." It appears he was in a volunteer cavalry organized in 1863-1864, moved to Fort Abercrombie in the Dakota Territory in 1864, and mustered out in 1866. My wife is a descendent of Mary Louise Virginia, your great grandfather's sister, who I have born on Dec 2 1869 in Hamel, MN. She married Frank Francis Pumarlo March 20, 1888 in Corcoran, MN. Joseph Gardner AKA DesJardiens ,1862 - 1933, was my great grandfather. He was married to Marie "Mary" Thibodeau. They lived most of their life in Corcoran, Hennepin County, Minnesota. They are buried in St. Jeanne de Chantel Catholic Cemetery there. Joseph 1835 - 1912, was born in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada, would have been my great-great grandfather. I found a record of his marriage, in the Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 showing his wife's name listed as Cedelice Mignault. Could this be a different Joseph DesJardiens? (Spelling is from Civil War Records and Cedelice's grave stone.) The witness to the marriage was Antoine DesJardins. I also found census records showing her name as Setilie Lelinna in the state of Minnesota. Joseph was a Pvt. in B. Hatch's Independent Battalion, Cavalry during the Civil War. His record is listed in the www.fold3.com/image/272/299665497. This is a part of the National Archived Catalog compiling documents for the period 1861 - 1866. Joseph was granted a Civil War Pension that was filed on July 30, 1883, application #491213. He died on July 12,1912 and his widow filed for his survivor benefits on July 25, 1912, application #990759. Her headstone list her name as Celedia DesJardiens, 1846-1914. She is also buried in St. Jeanne de Chantel Cemetery. I can not find evidence of Joseph's grave. I was able to find the children of Joseph and Cedelice listed as my great grandfather Joseph, 1862 - 1933, his brother Christmas, born in 1864, sister Lydia, born 1868, sister Mary, born 18710 and sister Josephine, born 1872.
