Good evening My ancestor Will Naylor of Bakewell was sentenced to three months hard labour in Feb 1897 for an assault on his wife in December of the previous year. He was not present at his conviction, and it was believed he had gone to America. I can't find any record of him leaving the UK however. He had returned to Bakewell by January 1898 as his son was born in Sept 1898. So, how do I find out if he actually went to prison, as he was certainly sentenced. Thank you Janie
