    3. Thank you all for your responses! He was Joseph Wolstenholme ANDREW, born 8 Nov. 1877 in Sheffield I'll reply to all here in this post. To Barbara Winder, thank you but a friend has already checked Ancestry quite thoroughly. I do appreciate your offer. To Anne in Hamilton, thank you. I'll check that out. much appreciated. To Nivard, thank you as well. I wouldn't post such information if I wasn't absolutely certain. I've heard the information from at least 10 people in the family, from all sides. He was my Salford-born father's father and Dad had no use for him. I've heard from aunts on both the English and Canadian sides, and from cousins in England. My father, his siblings and half-sisters all witnessed the behaviours I've mentioned, and each told me in person. I'm not certain he served in the Army Service Corps, but I think it likely. Several of his brothers did, and I've been told he carried water for horses in France. I've searched the medal rolls, and there are several named Joseph W. Andrew - middle names not given. My English-born aunt, who died just two years ago, often talked about her father. She talked frequently about going to the railway station in Salford or Manchester to see him, in his uniform, off to war and when he came home on leave. The only photo we have of him was when he was in the military hospital in Buxton. Thank you so much for the passport site. I didn't know there is such a one. I'll check it out.
