Hello I would like to find the Baptism of my GG Grandmother SARAH ANN GREAVES who was supposed to have born in Limehurst, Oldham, Lancashire around 1821. Her father was RICHARD GREAVES. I know that SARAH ANN married HENRY LOWDEN FOWLER on 14 March 1841 at St Michael's Church, Ashton under Lyne and her father Richard was stated to be a Glassblower. They were living at House 3, Charlestown, Whitfield, Glossop, Derbyshire in the 1841 Census. They were named as Henry & Sarah LOWDIN on that Census.They must have split up around 1842 as SARAH ANN had a daughter ALICE ANN to Thomas Hague in August 1843 and she was living with Thomas in Howard Court, Ashton under Lyne. They married in August 1846 at St Michael's Church, Ashton under Lyne. Her father at that time was stated to be a Baker.In the 1851 Census SARAH ANN and THOMAS HAGUE were still living at Howard Court, Ashton under Lyne with Alice Ann and son John William.Thomas Hague's parents were also living in Howard Court but at another house.I have found everything else about Sarah Ann Greaves including her death and burial in 1870 in Ashton under Lyne but just cannot find her Baptism.I also cannot find a Baptism for her father.I think her parents were RICHARD & MARY GREAVES who are living at Duncan Street, Ashton under Lyne in 1841 Census.I can't find any more about them. I obtained a Death Certificate for a Richard Greaves who died in 1846 in Manchester but it was not him.Could SARAH ANN GREAVES and her father have been born in Derbyshire and not Oldham? Pat

Hello Pat, There is a death registration on the GRO for a Richard GREAVES in the September qtr 1844 at Ashton under Lyne reg district, vol 20, page 29 who sounds a likely candidate for Sarah's presumed father. Lots of death registrations for a Mary GREAVES at Ashton under Lyne district between 1841 and 1851. However, no luck with your Sarah Ann's baptism I'm afraid. Have you looked at the actual parish registers of Ashton under Lyne for baptisms of children to a Richard GREAVES in the relevant timescale? The 1861 census shows that Sarah HAGUE's birthplace was Ashton under Lyne.
