For many years I have researched my own family of Streets, Ash's, Hawley's etc in Derbyshire. My married family, KELLAND are all from Dartmouth in Devon, However, this Christmas I received a surprise email from someone giving me some incredibly wonderful insight into the Kelland family together with a birth certificate of one of great grandfather's children. Which says that the child's mother ANNIE JANE nee GILLARD was born in Derbyshire! That was a surprise. I thought she was from Devon too although I've never found her in the census records with her parents. Does anyone have ANNIE JANE GILLARD, born 1856 in Derbyshire? There's a few Annie Jane Gillards born in Devon which are far more likely to fit (I haven't ordered birth certificates yet) I thought it may be possible that she was born in Derbyshire but registered in Devon? Has anyone got Annie Jane who moved to Dartmouth and married Francis Arthur Kelland then moved to South Africa? Of course there is also the chance that since the child referred to above was born in South Africa, the South African authorities simply put Derbyshire down as an area they knew!!
