    3. Thank you Marjorie, My SPENCER'S came from Thornsett but originated from the Clayton Le Moors area in Lancashire. They moved into Derbyshire around 1805. They were in the Calico trade which I think was just starting up in the New Mills area. Your  site info (maps) gave me a better in site as to the area homes they lived in. Actually I did not see many homes where I looked, it gave me the impression it was pretty bleak spot. I would think the local pub would have been a welcome spot of relief for these 'early settlers' .
