Merry Christmas...and not quite lost.. My ancestor William Hemmingray came to the US in 1843 with his father John Hemmingray and mother Ann (Ellis) from Belper. I am trying to figure out who Ann's parents might have been? She was born circa 1796, though the census record in 1841 makes her appear older. There was a "biography" written about William here in the US around the turn of the 20th century. He had become a noted mine inspector. In the biography, the author stated that Ann Ellis Hemmingray's family came from the area of Castle Donington. Every record that I have for them, including William's death record states that his parents were from Belper or Heague. There is a record in the IGI for an Ann Ellis born to William and Dorothy Ellis of Derbyshire, that looks promising. I just don't know where to go with this.
