    3. This may be a long shot but there is a Matthew Cope and his wife Anna living in Pennsylvania in 1870 both were from England. [You can view the image via familysearch.org]. The age given for Matthew is correct and Anna is older. It wasn't uncommon for married men to go to America by themselves and send for their families once they were settled down. Hannah may have gone across sometime between 1861 and 1870 to join him but for some reason left their daughter Eunice behind. I've seen Eunice living with the Baker family on the census right up until 1901. It could be him as there are no death records for him in England and he doesn't appear to be on any of the later census returns ... or then again it could be someone totally different! In the 1841 census he lived at 3 River Street, Derby. In 1851 at 37 Cockpit Hill, Derby He married Hannah BAKER 14.5.1853 at St Alkmunds Church, Derby. They had a daughter Eunice Mathewana COPE 11.1.1860. But by the 1861 census he has disappeared off the face of the earth - I just cannot find him anywhere. His wife and child are living with her parents at 50 Abbey Street by then. Any ideas for me to follow?
