Hi everyone, I have a problem - my girlfriend and her husband in Hampshire have moved during the past few months - she sent me a new address and for what ever reason I cannot find it - I need to send her Christmas Calendar - I have checked 192.com, but one has to pay a subscription which I don't want to do for one address. In Australia it is free to check names, addresses and phone numbers on whitepages - is there some way I can do this for UK without having to pay a subscription?. I do know they have only moved about two miles from their previous home. Many thanks for any suggestions, happy hunting Annette WATSON Lismore Australia

It is free to check in the actual phone book but they would not yet be in there but the books are only published once a year. Directory enquiries won't give out a number unless you know the address. They don't give out the address at all. The other place would be the electoral roll but they would not be in there yet either. Unless all the rules have changed, of course. If your friend has chosen to be ex-directory and in the edited version of the electoral roll, their address won't be available. The only other options I can think of would be to contact their local paper and ask them to help or to send a card to their old address with "Please Forward" on the envelope and a note in the card asking for their address again or wait until you get a card from your friends. We have to put a return address on all mail going overseas, even if it is just the post code and house number. If anyone can help Annette at all, please do so *offlist*. I had a call from a long standing friend last night who'd managed to lose my address. Fortunately he had my number in his phone. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
