Hi everyone, I'm having a right brick wall moment trying to sort out the connection from my family MEE BISHOP, to the Diseworth, Castle Donington MEE and LE MEY lines. There's a shed load of research about MEE but loads of misinformation too. My ancestor William Mee married Mary Elizabeth Bishop in Derby. Their marriage certificate shows him as a widower but i have no information of a previous wife. There could and probably would be more children. Mee is quite a common name in this area probably due to the “Normandy” Le Mey connection and “William” is no help at all! Every male child was either a William or a John etc etc. Any hints as to how i may track down the first Mrs William Mee will be greatly appreciated.
Hi, Could you please provide us with some dates as this will help narrow down the searches, many thanks, Annette WATSON Lismore 2480 Australia At 02:18 AM 31/05/2018, you wrote: >Hi everyone, I'm having a right brick wall >moment trying to sort out the connection from my >family MEE BISHOP, to the Diseworth, Castle Donington MEE and LE MEY lines. > >There's a shed load of research about MEE but >loads of misinformation too. Hi Anne, William Mee was born in Derby in 1825 and 1830 according to Census and Marriage info. He died in January 1915 and was buried at Nottingham Road Cemetery. He married Mary Elizabeth Bishop in May 1879 where his status was widower. It’s his first marriage I am interested in finding more about.
Hi again Thanks for your help Annette My William Mee was born in Derby, Derbyshire and was stated as being 89 on his death certificate. The record of his marriage to Mary Elizabeth Bishop shows his father as also being William Mee. The only children I have for him are those from his marriage to Mary and they were all given the surname Mee Bishop. His occupation at various times was Cattle Drover and General Lodging House Keeper. Many thanks again Helen On Sun, 3 Jun 2018 at 01:16, Annette Watson <annete@aapt.net.au> wrote: Hi, I have done some searching, and as you say there are quite a few MEE names. It is very hard to find him on census without knowing his occupation or children. I checked Ancestry public trees and notice that there are a few people with a William MEE, born circa 1821 in Worthington, Lei. with a death date of 3 Dec 1915, I think this is the one who was 58 when he died. They have a marriage to Sarah TOPLIS, JunQ 1842, reg. Shardlow, I see on freebmd that your William died MarQ 1915. William's parents are Abraham MEE & Elizabeth MASON, is this possibly his first wife. Of course this would all have to be verified, I hope this is of some help, happy hunting, Annette
