I have been trying find details of my 8G Grandfather Henry BROCKSOPP for some years. Henry and his wife Isabel had 3 children baptised in North Wingfield from 1648. Both Henry and Isabel were buried at North Wingfield in in 1654. I’m trying to find Where Henry BROCKSOPP came from and his marrige to Isabel. If any one has any ideas I would be very grateful. thank you Jenny Deverell
Hello Jenny, There are 3 BROCKSOP(P) baptisms for the period 1610-1623 at Chesterfield to an Edward/Edmund BROCKSOPP, unfortunately not one for a Henry, although Henry does appear to be one of the forenames used within the Chesterfield BROCKSOPPs so perhaps worth further investigation. Lichfield Record Office Online Wills Index (www.staffsnameindexes.org.uk/StartPage.aspx?) have quite a few BROCKSOP(P) wills including one for a Henry BROCKSOPP of North Wingfield, Yeoman dated 1707 (one of your Henry's sons??) and that of an Edmund BROCKSOP of North Wingfield, yeoman dated 1719. It could be worth while obtaining copies of these wills as you may just be lucky and it could mention maternal or paternal relatives. You may never find a parish record of Henry & Isabel's marriage as it is likely to fall within the period when few or no records were kept due to the English Civil War & the following period of Cromwell's Protectorship. Janet Thanks for that. I have a copy of the Will of Henry BROCKSOPP , my 7G grandfather, though not his brother Edmunds. I will have to go on looking.
