Hi I have been unable to trace a baptism for Joseph BRANDRETH (or BRANDRITH) - probably circa 1798. The family lived in Ashbourne and Mapleton from that time onwards but it's quite possible Joseph came from elsewhere. Any suggestions very welcome! Andy
I located them in an 1851 and 1861 census, is this of any use to you? Hi Andy - have you been able to check the original PRs for Ashbourne for your BRANDRETHs? I ask because they are poorly covered by Familysearch/IGI - hence I have spent many hours trawling through the films at Matlock looking for a variety of names there, though unhappily not BRANDRETH! Have you looked for Wills at Lichfield? Have you checked non-conformist records - there were dissenting chapels in Ashbourne in the 18th century, if I remember rightly, and the extant records for at least one of them begin in the 1790s.
