    3. COOPER: Thomas and Sarah Brickwall with finding marriage for Sarah's maiden name?????? If anyone can help with this one it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Australia so have relied on any records or maps I can find via the internet and subscription sites. Their son Thomas Cooper was christened in Brimington, Derbyshire on the 16 August 1801 this is recorded in the Transcripts held at the Lichfield Record Office. The only other Cooper entries in the transcripts [1801-1805] are the christening of William Cooper 7 Dec 1800 son of Thomas and Anne [This appears to be Thomas Cooper and Anne Clarke who married by Lic 8 August 1799] and the burial of Anne Cooper wife of Thomas in 1802. It appears that Thomas then became involved with Sarah Searston in Staveley. Sarah was a widow of Samuel Searston [buried 1 July 1801] their son Robert was christen 5 April 1801 [Therefore not my Tom's Mum]. Thomas and Sarah had a daughter Sarah christened 16 Feb 1806 illegimate and prior to this a daughter Hannah christen 22 July 1804 with the Mother recorded as Mary Sestern and father Thomas Cooper. The couple married in Staveley 17 March 1806. In consulting marriages in the area there was a Sarah Cowper wife of Thomas Cooper Brimington buried 10 July 1798. This appears to be Sarah Bennet married at Staveley 25 Dec 1793. They had a dau Anne Cowper christened at Inkersall 21 Sept 1794 but did not find any others. I did come across a newspaper article [the notice was dated 17 Jan 1827] of an Isaac Bennet of Haddon [Bakewell] who assigned his estate and effects to Robert Johnson of Bakewell Mercer, Thomas Cooper of Ashford Miller and William Chadwick of Wishington [Lancaster] farmer. Thomas Cooper 1801 grew up to be a corn Miller and later a publican. His census records and death always match a birth year of 1801 so it would seem he was christen a baby not a toddler. Another marriage of a Thomas Cooper to a Sarah Markham 8 March 1791 at chesterfield. This Sarah appears to have died on 23 June 1800 at Whittington. Her daughter Mary christen the same day died the following year 12 Feb 1801. This Thomas appears to have then remarried Elizabeth Lingard 1 Jan 1802 and she was buried at Whittington 5 Nov 1827. Although there are other Sarah and Thomas Cooper marriages these three are in the general location of Brimington. Karen

    3. Hi everyone, Oh well, might as well give it a go - my 3 x gr grandmother Rebecca CLARKE born circa 1776 (from Census & death cert) married James LEE on 4 Dec 1808 in St Mary's, Nottingham, Ntts. The following is 1841 & 1851 Census info & death cert info - On 1841 Census for Poets Corner, Lane End, Sutton in Ashfield, Ntts, Rebecca 70 born out of the county is living with her children James 20 Brick M, William 20 Stocking M and his wife Maria 20 and their son George 1 month, also in the home is her daughter Rebecca TOMKIN 30 and her grandchildren James TOMKIN 8, William TOMKIN 5 and Benjamin TOMKIN 3. On 1851 Census for 1108 Sutton Grange, Sutton in Ashfield, Ntts, Rebecca 75 born Belper, Dby a widow House Keeper is living with her sons James 36 a FWK, William 34 a FWK, Williams's wife Maria 32 a Dressmaker and William's children George 10 a Scholar and Eliza 7 a Scholar (my great grandmother) Death Cert info - Rebecca age 84 yrs died 11 Jan 1859 - widow of James LEE, she died from Old Age, James LEE her son was present at her death. I have been searching for Rebecca's baptism for 26 years, have checked so many parish records (films) and of course the internet . I recently checked an LDS film for St Michael's, Willington, Dby, and found a Rebecca CLARK baptised 12 Feb 1769 to Benjamin CLARK & Elizabeth. What are the possibilities that this is my Rebecca, her father was Benjamin, my Rebecca named one of her sons Benjamin (he was married by the 1841 C), one of her grandsons is Benjamin - Benjamin was not a common christian name at that time - her mother died a year later and was buried 21 Apr 1770, after that I cannot find this Rebecca's father Benjamin in Willington, checked for a death and a marriage. What are the chances he could have moved away after the death of his wife Elizabeth?, still looking for him. I know the age on Census and death does not collate with the baptism, but, people did not always know how old they were (I sometimes have to think about mine). I do hope this makes sense, let me know if it does not. Happy hunting Annette WATSON Lismore Australia
