I've just obtained a will for Henry Elliott, Wirksworth dated 1818. In it he says: "Also I give and Devise unto my son Henry Elliott my share of the Well Groove Mine in the Liberty of Wirksworth" I have tried to find some reference to this mine but had no success.Does anyone have any ideas? Hi Jo There's a bit of info at this website, (Peak District mining) http://www.pdmhs.com/ There's mention of a Well Grove Mine on page 59 of Ron Slack's book, which can be downloaded from the site. Possibly there's more info in other chapters of the book. By consulting the map at the beginning you'll be able to see whereabouts the mine was.
