Has he any links to the Slaters of Hazlewood near Duffied? My great grandmother (times 5) on both my paternal OSBISTON lines was Sarah SLATER -and her father was THOMAS PARSON SLATER. I've lots on them. She was a wheelwright and farmer. He married a lady with the first name of Mary, but as we cannot find the marriage, I don't know her surname. They started having children in about 1724. Joseph was born in Sutton on the Hill, his mother came from there, but he was of the Wheelwright SLATER family that built what is now the Rose and Crown in Boyleston. There used to be a large wheel mounted on the wall of that pub, but it has since been taken down for "health and safety". Originally a Wheelwright shop, built around 1640 it became a pub probably closer to the 1800s. When the SLATER boys left home they all went out as Wheelwrights and Publicans, for about 7 generations. But where did Joseph marry and what was her name? I've had this one for about 20 years. By the way, there used to be a glass panel in the pub to show the construction of the wattle and daub wall of the pub. regards Hilary ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to DERBYSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
