    1. [DBY] WATSON [& NORTON] of Stapenhill: Brickwall #2 - missing marriage record

    3. Hello List Next WATSON / NORTON brick wall! The younger William WATSON (chr Stapenhill, 1825) was son of William WATSON (bur Stapenhill 1829) and Rebecca / Rebekah NORTON, who married in Stapenhill in 1823. (Subject of my previous posting). William WATSON jnr married Mary Ann NORTON (born c1830, Drakelow, d/o John NORTON & Mary, nee GOODWIN, my 2x gt-grandparents). John NORTON was Rebecca's older brother, so William jnr and Mary Ann were 1st cousins. In 1841, after the death of her own mother, 11-yr-old Mary Ann was living with her widowed Aunt Rebecca and family, as a female servant. In 1851 she was a dressmaker, back with her father and youngest siblings. My brickwall is that I cannot find their marriage - obviously missing from the GRO index. (I have the birth certificate of one of their children, as proof of this marriage). Time frame narrowed down to between 18 Feb 1854 (when, as Mary Ann NORTON, she was a witness to her sister Maria's marriage) and the birth of her oldest child, Fanny / Frances WATSON, 3 Feb 1855. Out of Mary Ann's seven married siblings, 4 married in a General Baptist chapel, and one as an Independent. This marriage was probably also General Baptist. Of those who married as General Baptists, most took place in Burton on Trent (Sts), while one was in Derby, and - given that they were based in Stapenhill - I'm looking between the two counties and the two different register offices. To help narrow it down, has anybody come across this marriage in Derbyshire, please? And does anybody know if Derby and/or Burton Register Offices take credit card payment? (From NZ it costs around as much to purchase a money order as it does to purchase a certificate, so that's not an option for me).
