My apologies to the List! I tried to CTRL-V to paste a reference & lost my message - apparently it was sent, unfinished. Trying again! Charles NORTON (s/o Charles NORTON & Elizabeth, nee BATE[S], of Cauldwell) was chr Stapenhill, 23 Dec 1717. He was a beneficiary of his father's will, dated 20 Nov 1753. Father died in Cauldwell in May 1756 and Charles jnr inherited "the little dwelling house and garden thereto belonging", as well as "twelve pounds of lawful money". There is no burial for him in Stapenhill PRs, after this date. I cannot find a marriage for him, either. The only reference I can find to him is this: Lichfield Record Office: Doc RefNo B/C/5/1757/42 Title Case type: Defamation/ Affidavit Date 16 Nov 1757 Description Principal people: Norton, Charles, cordwainer; Pratt, William, yeoman Principal places: Caldwell, Derbyshire Further details: William Pratt in church on 16th Oct RelatedMaterial Range of cause papers: B/C/5/1757/40-44 Living in NZ, I am unable to view this file (and the cost of photocopying is prohibitive) so have no idea what it holds, but it does prove that Charles NORTON - cordwainer, like his father - was alive around Oct-Nov 1757. Can anybody find a marriage or burial for this man, please?
