    1. [DBY] Chesterfield Local Studies Library - quick lookup request [HAWLEY]
    2. Rosemary Probert
    3. Some time ago I managed to obtain photographs of all the HAWLEY entries from Bestall's Card Index of Chesterfield parish registers from the Local Studies Library. However, I have subsequently found several entries for HAWLEY/HAULEYs in FamilySearch which are not on the copies I have. Could some very kind soul have a look when they are at the library and see if I'm missing a card for 1638-1644? Many thanks, Rosemary Northumberland UK Email: rosemary@rprobert.co.uk Family History: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rprobert/ Banburyshire Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~engcbanb/

    3. Hi Rosemary, somebody else may beat me to it but otherwise I'll be happy to check for your HAWLEYs when I'm next at CLS which will be one day this coming week. However, I do need to mention that over the years cards from the Bestall's boxes have gone walkabout, unsurprisingly. I've had the same experience as you, finding gaps in dates where later I found entries in the PRs. As far as I'm aware, no-one has done a complete transcript of the entire PRs for St Mary's so we're left with the unfortunate reality that the original PRs have to be checked even though we have Bestall's index up to 1812. The good news I guess is that DRO are going to digitise all the PRs so Chesterfield St Mary should be accessible online one day. 3. Hi Rosemary, I made into Chesterfield Local Studies yesterday before the snow fell too heavily and had a look at the HAWLEY index cards (I also checked possible variants) - there was no card there for 1638-44. However, with that only being six years, perhaps there were no HAWLEY events in that period? 3. Hello Celia, Thank you very much for looking for me and braving the elements! > there was no card there for 1638-44. However, > with that only being six years, perhaps there were no HAWLEY events > in that period? There are some recorded in FamilySearch. And, as the cards also include other details and burials, I was hoping there would be one for those years.
