Forwarded on behalf of Jane, it keeps bouncing, I think this one due to it being in HTML, so just a reminder that to make sure a post gets to the list, please *only* post in plain text and to the [email protected] list address Thank you Hello My great great grandfather, William Naylor of Bakewell was sentenced to 3 months hard labour at Derby Gaol on 20 Jan 1897. He wasnt in court when the sentence wass passed, and absconded, sailing to America on 23 Jan 1897. He had arrived back in Bakewell in 1898. I have checked the Derby Archives record site but can't find any indication that he served his sentence. Would it be likely that he had to serve his sentence when he returned, or would this be forgotten about ( he was only away for about a year) Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
