    3. Hi Peter, *Since I have some answers to our questions I thought I'd fill you in.* 1. Re. David Moore, Curator of the Sir John Rhŷs Conference 2015. I received this reply eventually from Dr. Maredudd ap Huw. "I am replying to your email, dated 7 March, in which you enquire about the John Rhŷs archive, and associated activities, here at the National Library of Wales. As you may already be aware, access to the archive is by means of the online catalogue, which is available at https://archives.library.wales/index.php/sir-john-rhys-papers-2 The only published biography of Rhŷs is that by T.H. Parry-Williams, John Rhŷs 1840-1915 (Cardiff, University of Wales Press, 1954). A number of individuals used the archive before and after the 2015 conference, and one of the contributors to the programme, Dr T. Robin Chapman, has been considering writing a biography of Rhŷs (https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/cymraeg/staff-profiles/listing/profile/ttc). We are aware that staff in the Department of Welsh & Celtic Studies at Aberystwyth University are editing the proceedings of the 2015 conferences, which will appear (in Welsh) sometime during 2017. More information may be obtained by contacting the Head of that Department. Professor Angela John’s lecture on Myvanwy and Olwen Rhŷs will be appearing this year in her book of essays, entitled ‘Rocking the Boat. Welsh Women who Championed Equality 1840-1990’. Researchers continue to make use of the archive. We are not aware that it is the focus of a thesis by a registered research student at the present time. Yours sincerely Dr Maredudd ap Huw Curator of Manuscripts (and one of the organisers of the 2015 John Rhŷs celebrations)" *After a decent Google search I found that Dr. David Moore is no longer at the National Library of Wales but is now a 'free-lance' art curator. No point in contacting him!* * 2. My dear daughter in London did an internet hunt and found a copy of the Welsh book we spoke about - Cofio'r Dafydd: Cymdeithas ap Gwilym 1886-1986 - that was cheaper than bus fare and photocopying. It probably helps that her husband seems to know all the good second-hand book places in London and who specializes in what! That was published in 1987 - nothing since. The book is sitting beside me now and does indeed look extremely useful.* * 3. We also spoke some while back about isolating one or two groups of the multitude of non-digitized sources in the John *Rhŷs *collection. After working my way through the information I have narrowed it down to a series of letters from him to a key individual from the Society. I also found a group of letters from another member to this same man. Both were 'men of letters' in addition to working as writers, publishers, historians, politicians and journalists. Very much the public faces of a broader Welsh culture - but while one looked back into history, the other looked forward to the creation of a modern Wales. Lastly, I found a non-digitized journal article listing all the members of the Society right up into recent times. So I sent in an copy request for all three. They will email me back in the next few days with a completed order form which I sign, give payment details and email back to them. From past experience their copy charges are extremely reasonable and rather than sending paper to NZ they supply me with a series of images by email.* *4. I have found Gerald Newman's 'English Nationalism' very interesting - thanks very much for suggesting I read it. It has helped shed light on the important role of what he describes as 'artist-intellectuals'. * **I'll now get back to reading, writing notes and writing. Can we schedule a Skype session for the end of April or beginning of May please? Hwyl / bye Tanya * *
