Although it is a while ago now, last time I placed a certificate order with checking points, it emerged that the search only includes checking a certain number of entries, so for a common name this may not cover all possibilities in the 3 years in question. I am not sure if this is still the case, or how I heard about it, but when I was advised that they hadn't found the birth I was looking for, I remember having to ring up to discover which entries had actually been checked, and could therefore be eliminated. I have a feeling that only 4 entries were checked.
