    3. Congratulations Anne. I've never had any cause to look at the Grindon family myself, but it seemed incredibly likely they had to be related. Good luck tidying up the loose ends. -----Original Message----- From: ANNE [mailto:granne@cogeco.ca] Sent: 22 September 2018 00:24 To: Derbyshire genealogy Subject: [DBY]Re: MYCOCK Hi Mark - I think I have made a connection between the Grindon and Chelmorton Mycocks. William E Mycock was born in Bakewell district in 1652 but he moved to Grindon and all his children were born there. I still have to link the families but we are getting there!!! 3. So happy to hear John is alive and kicking. His site was the driving force for me to take my Doxey line back. During the journey I found he and I are cousins (4th - 1 removed I think). John used to sell (give for a donation perhaps is more accurate) a CD copy of his website for 10pounds. I have one but it is quite old at this point and missing some of the more recent interesting articles he has added over the years. I wonder if someone could not make a new Master copy CD and then clone it for those interested? \s\Rick -----Original Message----- From: Jayne [mailto:jadire@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2018 7:17 AM To: Derbyshire genealogy Subject: [DBY]John Palmer I have just had a lovely conversation with John and he tells me he is very much alive and kicking. <smile> Unfortunately, he is no longer on the internet, has no interest in using the internet and is no longer adding anything more to the Wirksworth site. 3. Totally agree Nivard but John used to link the census to church records which was very helpful in determining the families. In my case, the Slacks and Brooks are common names and it is hard to decipher who belongs to who at times! Especially when the Brooks are all names Thomas and Mary!! I don't find FreeCen much help - someone needs to update it but I know it is run by volunteers so that may not happen. And I do use John's site regularly. I'm just happy to hear he is alive and well. The band had been playing at Chelmorton and late at night, or in the early morning, Flagg was aroused and alarmed by hearing the loud drum beat all down the street until it stopped at SOLOMON’S house. It seems, so he said, that in passing Chelmorton Thorn, the scene of a tragedy, a ghost was awaiting the drummer’s return and persisted in following and frightening him; but the ghost did not like the noise, so SOLOMON applied the drum-sticks, and as long as he drummed, the ghost kept a respectable distance, and the old musician reached home safely. Thought this might be of some interest. Prunella.

    3. No. The obituary report refers to a John Palmer aged 79. The author of the Wirksworth site was born in 1940, so would have been 74/75 at the time of the report. Also it is reported he was the widower of Dorothy. Whereas the John Palmer we are interested in is married to Rosie. 3. Wasnt he unwell some years back? Great website he had, I was able to have an article on it about DALEFIELD. Perhaps he is now in a home, if I was living in UK I would try and ring or write to him, but now a resident of New Zealand... Often think of John and his wonderful site... other than that, check the Obituaries to see if his name comes up... wasnt he living in Dorset as well... 3. Just a reminder that the DFHS has a Facebook Page, for which I've recently taken on Administrator responsibilities. It's not the intention to duplicate the sorts of topics that appear on this List, although occasionally I suppose this might happen. It's more about letting the wider genealogical community know what the Society is doing, and to bring to the attention of Society members meetings and topics of interest to them. All relevant items will be gratefully received.
