    3. That's a very interesting comment, John, thank you very much. I shall keep my eyes open for a first wife Catherine as I progress further backwards through the Duffield Fee records for Biggin (I'm back to the 1660s so far), and look at available Wills. At present, we theorise that George (who married Agnes, possibly Catherine first) was the son of John and Amy WILCOCKSON. I have 9 children for them, taken from Wills. Do you know anything about that family by any chance? 3. Hello Celia, Is it possible that Agnes MADDOCK married George WILCOCKSON 1622 as his second wife? A Catherine died in 1622 may have been his first wife, see www.wirksworth.org.uk/PR103.htm#2265 The Wirksworth Parish Register from which these records are transcribed begins about 1606, when George was 21 and possibly already married. 3. Listers perhaps remember that I've asked a few times about WILCOCKSONs in Derbyshire. I've now published a post to my blogsite which sums up the reasons for chasing WILCOCKSONs and progress made so far. www.morgansite.wordpress.com. It turns out that there weren't all that many Derbyshire descendants from the families that lived in Biggin near Wirksworth, and the most plentiful WILCOCKSON line was in West Riding of Yorkshire, then Lancashire, where several more generations were Quakers. It would be great to hear from anyone else chasing WILCOCKSONs. Regards, Celia Renshaw in Chesterfield UK

    3. What a wonderful collection of old Mellor names! Mr Jowett of Lower Hall was a local landowner. The land on which my house stands was leased from his descendant's widow. Saml Pickford was presumably an ancestor of the Sam Pickford who farmed the land behind where I now live. Mr (Samuel) Oldknow was the man who brought the cotton industry to Mellor in 1790. And was Jas Walklate a descendant of the Thomas Walklate (d 1637) who gave Mellor its first school and founded the Walklate Educational Trust? 3. Mike's post about Mellor gravestones includes: Mr OLDKNOW Windl Bottom 1s. Samuel OLDKNOW was a local industrialist and entrepreneur but this may be another member of his family .... there are several OLDKNOWS on Mike's list. This location could be Windy Bottom which is now known as Roman Bridge over the river Goyt on an old packhorse route. The change of name is down to the Victorians who thought the old name rather vulgar. Eric Millward

When Frederick Fairburn died she married again to Daniel Purdy at Mansfield in 1883. Sarah Ann died in 1906 at Shirebrook. I have always been fascinated by Sarah Ann, and would love to know more about her or even find a photograph. If anyone out there has connections to Sarah Ann I would love to hear from you, and I am willing to give you what information I have about her if you are connected. Regards, Lin

There may be several farmers working the land which was Lea Hall, or variant. Please could someone with local knowledge tell me where it is and how it's spelt,  as it seems it is there today.
