    1. [DBY] JOHN EYRE and DOROTHY KING
    2. Jennifer Nicholas
    3. There has been some doubt about the dates for this couple. I can now narrow John's death down to before 1647   There is a Marriage Settlement John Froggotte - Mary Eyre at the DRO dated 1647. At this time Dorothy is already a widow.    The Indenture is signed after the marriage has taken place by Dorothy's brother in law Edward Eyre of Alport yeoman and John Froggotte's cousin Thomas Froggotte of Bubnill yeoman   Dorothy has paid £100 and John conveys land and property in Froggotte to Edward and Thomas on behalf of Mary. The document mentions one messuage and three cottages in Froggotte, two oxgangs of land, meadow or pasture with all houses, outhouses, barns, stables, orchards, gardens etc with waterways, water easements appurtenances etc.   Kind regards, Jennifer Nicholas.

    1. [DBY] HARRISON
    2. Hi, I have posted before about my Harrison family, but looking at it in a slightly different way. My Great Grandfather Elijah Harrison (born 14 Jul 1864 in Ilkeston) married Mary Ann Hames (born Giltbrook, Notts) and they had five children. Other than my grandfather Elijah, I have no idea if any of the other 5 siblings had children and indeed if there are any 'living' cousins around still. The five Harrison children were: Hannah Elizabeth (born 1890) Elijah (born 12 July 1892) Ronald Victor (born 1894) John Cecil (born 26 October 1898) My father was Cecil, so assuming he was named after his uncle) Sarah (born 1 July 1901) Nellie (born 1909 - died 1910) If anyone is out there searching these Harrisons too and you think we might be connected, I would love to hear from you. Lin (nee Harrison)

    3. Thanks Mike, I think Benjamin STURGESS is one of mine (or rather my husband's). The surname is sometimes STURGESS, sometimes STURGES with or without the German type double s - s set. I'm not sure where he fits yet but not on the direct line, I think. There were Benjamins in every generation. Earliest was the Benjamin married in Repton in 1733 with children baptised in Ticknall and Newton Solney. Does this ring any bells with anyone? 3. Hi Andrea, I saw that item as well, and well worth a look. I just typed in Derbyshire and there are masses of places covered. Sadly some are unidentified, but I wonder if the list could identify those places called, "a Derbyshire farm" or a Derbyshire lane" etc. You never know we might be able to put some names to the pictures. Of course artistic licence is always going to be a problem, but you never know. mike On Tue, Feb 12, 2013 at 8:49 PM, Andrea Newham <andreanewham@hotmail.com>wrote: > On the BBC East Midlands news tonight they did a piece on a local artist > about whom i knew nothing - Ernest Townsend. 3. Hello Andrea We have enjoyed looking at these paintings. From the geographical spread of the sitters he obviously had a good reputation as a competent portraitist. We found the street scenes and landscapes more interesting though and I would like to have seen more of them dated. The `Your Paintings` website, which the link takes you to is an attempt, completed in 2012, to digitise every painting held in a public collection and includes a couple of my husband`s. So if you have a favourite painting you know to be in a public collection, it should be on the website. best wishes Marjorie Ward Derbyshire, UK Sources for Disley; Lyme Handley; Taxal & Whaley www.disley.net Sources for Hollingworths www.hollingworths.net Sources for NWDby incl Chapel; Charlesworth; Chinley; Fernilee; Glossop; Hayfield; Hope Valley; Mellor & New Mills http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dusk John Ward Paintings: www.johnward-art.com

    2. John Ashworth
    3. Good day, Many thanks to each of the DFHS members who responded to my query regarding the names on the Quarndon War Memorial. Your thoughtfulness, both in your messages and in actually making a trip to St. Paul's church and photographing the site, is greatly appreciated. Since the Quarndon memorial is such an exemplary form of commemoration, one might hope that a pictorial record of the plaque, as well as an account of its preparation and installation, will appear presently in the DFHS journal. Aside from my personal interest in one of the servicemen named on the memorial, the relatively new plaque is itself a model of community commemoration. For those who have moved away from Quarndon and whose descendants can now be found all over the world as well as for those who regularly pass by the memorial, the family names on the commemorative plaque, now newly inscribed on stainless steel, continue to perpetuate the memory of those who gave of themselves for our sake. It's good to know that the Quarndon community remembers them so well. John Ashworth, North Vancouver, B.C.

HI, I don't know if you have looked at this site http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server/show/conMemorial.19062/fromUkniwmSearch/1 but it does tell you all about the memorial and who to contact, although it does not give the names of those on the memorial. There was a Channel 4 site some years ago at http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/L/lostgeneration/family/ but sadly it no longer exists which was a project to get all the names on all the UK war memorials into a database. I found some of the data was rubbish and did input corrections but it now seems to have disappeared although you could try contacting Channel 4 history so see if it is hosted elsewhere as a lot of work went into it.
