Hi Karen, have you tried Wills, from Lichfield Record Office, or Notts Archives? You can search Lichfield Wills Index 1650-1750 online: http://www.staffsnameindexes.org.uk/StartPage.aspx?Mode=Details&Index=C. I just tried searching for ENGLAND there and found quite a few in Ilkeston, Alfreton, Heanor etc. For Notts Wills, you can search the online catalogue of Notts Archives, or contact them to ask for a search of their card indexes. I just tried the online catalogue, searching for ENGLAND and dates 1700-1750, and found several Wills listed. http://nawcat.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/DServe/dserve.exe Cheers, Celia Renshaw in Chesterfield UK On 9 May 2013 08:51, Karen <kaehansen28@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi a ll - > > I am well and truly stuck on John England father of William born 9th > January 1717 in Alfreton - William then later married Sarah Bugg in 1740 - > details of which I have > > I have found a JOHN ENGLAND p. lowdown in Notts married in 1716 - problem > is I don't know if this is the right England as no other particulars was > recorded on William's baptism - it just John - Derby has ruled out that > there was no other children baptised by John in Alfreton > > I don't know who John England is I don't know if he is from Notts or > another part of Derby - but I am desperate to find out who he married and > if he had another children as I am well and truly stuck - > > So anyone who can help I would well and truly appreciate it > > Cheers Karen > Queensland > Australia > >

Thanks Celia- I have now joined the email updates but if you see any Osbistons (however spelt) in D2375 whilst looking for others, please let me know and I'll come over to check. Hi Karen, You can order a film for Ilkeston from www.familysearch.org - you need to go into the 'Catalog' and type in Ilkeston into Place Name, this will then show you all filmed records for Ilkeston, if you scroll down to Church Records (14) and then check this you will see what is available for your time period - I have copied details of a Parish Register Film for you - Film Notes Note Location Film/DGS "General registers" containing: Baptisms, marriages and burials 1588-1669 ("Defective 1670-1679" with only parts of 1676/7 and 1678/9.) Baptisms, marriages and burials 1680-1750 Baptisms and burials only 1750-1785 Family History Library BRITISH Film <https://familysearch.org/films/lookup/product/view/?id=1&film=1752153>1752153 Items 10 - 14 You need to set up an account with familysearch - you can pay by credit card or PayPal. In Australia we pay $7.75 for each film. I have been using the LDS films for 27 years, it is amazing what is available. If a family stayed in one place for many years you can find a few generations of families. When a film has been ordered it is sent to your local LDS Family History Centre for you to view, you have about a month to check the film, photocopies are available of any records you need. After you have finished with the film it is then sent back to Salt Lake City. I hope this is of help, viewing films of the original registers is quite wonderful and after Wills they are the Primary Records. It is great to find records on the net but the originals do need to be checked. As part of my husband's research into his great uncles who settled in South Africa, we have discovered an EMMA BRAILSFORD of Derby who married into his Bradshaw family. >From her age at death Emma appears to be the one born June Qtr 1865, Derby RD, who is then on the 1871 Census, in St Alkmund Parish, with parents JAMES & PHOEBE BRAILSFORD. If anyone on the list has an interest in this family, then we would be pleased to share information with them. Prunella Bradshaw.

Hi All Karen asked "Thomas Cocker and Ellena England married 11 Oct 1614 in Ilkeston - if possible I would like the names of their children please" Your reference at the Derbyshire County Record Office at Matlock may be as follows: MATLOCK R.O. REF. D.3082. A.P.1. 1/1. Large size register, fair / poor condition. I have viewed the register direct. BAPTISM'S, MARRIAGES and BURIALS 1588 to 1695/6 incl. I cannot help you re COCKER pre 1700, but I can tell you the register for the period you are seeking, the entries are in Latin, albeit reasonably easy to follow with patience. Nowadays you will most likely not be able to view the registers direct, but I'm sure the staff at Matlock will as always prove helpful. I did note a COCKER child burial in June 1707. My research re Ilkeston St. Marys pre 1700 is solely on my RICHARDS research and there does not appear to be any connection with your COCKER research. Regards Jack Richards

Hi Charani, I have this family in my database. In fact, if you have LUNNs or PARKERs from South Derbyshire, then we are almost certainly connected somewhere. Daniel LUNN was bapt. 25 May 1845 at St John, Newhall, son of William LUNN (1817-1848) and Sarah DENT (1820-). Lucy PARKER was bapt. 19 Nov 1843 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, daughter of John PARKER (c1802-) and Catherine CHEATLE (1804-1867). I have details of several generations of ancestors of both Daniel and Lucy, as well as their children. My longstanding (20 years) brickwall in the ancestry of a James LOMAS... What I know 1841 census, Shaw Stile Fernilee, '55' years, farmer, b Derbyshire 1851 census, Shaw Stile Fernilee, head, 66 years, farmer of 140 acres, b Combs He married Hannah HIBBERT, 30 May 1809 at Hope St Peter -'of Hope Parish, bachelor, with a witness John LOMAS' (Note -John LOMAS m Betty HIBBERT 8 Nov 1803 at Hope St Peter) From Taxal St James burial register: 'buried 27 Dec 1855 James LOMAS of Fernilee aged 72' but from the headstone 'James LOMAS of Shawstile, died 27 Dec 1855, 73' If born Combs, should have been christened at Chapel-en-le-Frith. There are the following christenings 6 Aug 1780 James son of John LOMAS of Hollins Combs (but was buried 4 Dec 1780) 20 Aug 1780 James son of John LOMAS of Cockyard (buried 2 Dec 1780) 20 Jan1781 James son of William LOMAS of Bridgefield (this James married Elizabeth Beard and farmed at Tunstead Milton) 25 Dec 1783 James son of John LOMAS of Diglake (buried 23 May 1784) I have checked both the Parish Register and Bishops Transcript and there is no sign of additional christenings. I've not found any wills for the family.
Hi Charani If you look on the following site www.southderbyshirebdm.co.uk there are transcriptions of the Parish Registers of St John's Newhall, where I have found 12 children of Daniel & Lucy baptised. In addition to your names, there are Agnes 1879 and Luther Howard 1883. In the burials are those for Agnes 8 months and Luther Howard 5 years. Also a Lucy - aged 42 in 1885. There are also details of marriages of the three daughters - Beatrice, Bertha, & Eglintine. Daniel was an ironmonger. Also Levi's wedding (now living in Ilkeston) to Lizzie Attwood. This rang a bell and looking on my tree, Levi is there as Elizabeth Attwood was the daughter of Elizabeth Walton, sister of my ancestor William Walton. There is a baptism for a Daniel Lunn in 1845 in Newhall, is this a possiblility? Parents William & Sarah. Newhall is very close to the Staffordshire border. I have found this site very useful as it covers Church Gresley, Linton, Swadlincote as well as Woodville & Overseal which are/were Leicestershire. Hope this helps.
