    3. Since Charani's latest call for brickwall suggestions, I've been  revisiting a few of my neglected lines. What do I find? Since I took my eyes off them, two, Stuart POUNTAIN,  (2C) and David Cade WIGGLESWORTH (7C) have died. But if I hadn't been searching Google, who knows when I would have  discovered their decease? So, in a way, thanks, Charani! Kind regards Joy

    3. I would like to find information on my GG Grandfather William Wibberley born about 1827 in either Ashbourne or Longton to Charles Wibberley and Mary Tunstall, both from Staffordshire. He doesn't seem to be directly related to other Ashbourne Wibberleys as far as I can see. He first married Jane Stafford (nee Bassett) in 1853 in Ashbourne and when she died in 1857 he married Maria Allsopp in 1861. She already had 2 children by the time they married and lodged with William and his sister before they were married. Does anyone have this William or his father in their tree? 2. Geraldine Bancroft
    3. Hi Everyone Is there anyone with a WALTON interest in the Church Gresley area in the south of the county? My earliest ancestor on this line is William WALTON born about 1755 and married Anne WYATT in Netherseal (just over the border in Leics - later to become Derbys) in 8 Apr 1776 I have found 2 children William c.1780 & Anne c. 1778 both baptised in Church Gresley. In 1851 William gives his place of birth as Linton. He married Mary HAIMES in Church Gresley on 2 May 1808 and they had 7 children. William was buried in Church Gresley on 1 Jan 1861 and Mary was buried in Swadlincote on 27 Mar 1870. Mary HAIMES was the subject of an earlier Brickwall enquiry. I have no further info on William WALTON Snr and Anne WYATT. May have some connection with Thomas WALTON (1739-1815) & Sarah nee Marrot (1744-1817) of Linton, married 1764 in Church Gresley, and their 4 children Anne 1765, Sarah 1770, Elizabeth 1774 & Mary 1776. Any new data would be most welcome. 2. Jon Cantrill
    3. Hi List, My brickwall is my 3rd Great-grandfather Robert WOODRUFF for whom I have no Birth/Baptism or Parents. His wife Susannah was born abt 1778 and was buried 25th March 1850 in Chesterfield. In my notes I have a possible marriage for these two 27th May 1799 in Chesterfield. I have 7 children for them, the first 4 of which were born/baptized in Chesterfield between 1800 and 1808 (Robert. Ann, Robert, Hannah), 1 child (Ellen) birth place unknown but born abt 1817, the 2 youngest children were baptised in Sheffield (Maria and Keziah/Cassiah (in 1814 and 1819). I have a removal order from Staveley to Calow for the Family on 30th April 1827 when only three children were listed (Ellen, Maria, Cassiah) Any information/connections for any of these WOODRUFF's would be really helpful. thank you Jon Cantrill -- My family tree - RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: C A N T R I L L http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=astridhq

    3. I would appreciate help in finding my John Wyatt. I am reviving my search for John Wyatt b1826 Glossop s/o Joseph Wyatt and Ellen Bartle. I think I found him 1851 a lodger with the Nall family living at Whitfield. The name Wyatt may have been mis transcribed as Wiatt. I recently discovered an 1878 marriage record at Audenshaw when a John Wyatt, farmer is recorded as the father of the groom Henry Wyatt. I would greatly appreciate help in finding my John Wyatt. 18th March 1878 Audenshaw St Stephen Henry Wyatt 28 Bachelor of Audenshaw Father John Wyatt Farmer Mary Travis 24 Spinster Servant of Audenshaw Father Benjamin Travis Collier Witness George Burgin and Sarah Bradwell Image 137/250 familysearch I think there is a strong chance that John Wyatt farmer, named as father of Henry on the 1878 marriage record is the John Wyatt I am looking for. I have the register details. Interesting that the birth registration 26 Dec 1849 for Henry does not show his father but gives his mother as Dorothy 1828-1892. If I could only find John Wyatt 1861,1871 and 1881 I would have a better idea. Of course John Wyatt could have died after 1851. 3. Hi list, I'm after Alfred Woodhouse born 1808 in Matlock, or should I say any record of his baptism/parents. I have records of the censuses and his Will, but not his birth in Matlock (not the Nottingham one). If I was online properly, I could say if I had his mariage and death register entry/certificate. It is his birth I'm interested in, to see whether he is connected to all the Woodhouses who are his neighbours in the censuses and he is even mentioned in their Wills. cheers Neil www.claycross.org.uk Sent from Yahoo! 3. Hi Caroline I have a slight interest in SLINN. My father's brother married Marjorie SLINN in Hasland in 1934, and, as she is related to the BRAILSFORD family, which I hope to link with my own, I've looked into her family a little. In my notes for my aunt, I have this item from the 1851 Census:- F735 S25 Mansfield Road, Hasland Cornelius Slinn-51-Ag Lab & Grocer born Ashover [b 1800] Elizabeth Slinn-43-Hasland [b 1807] Mary Slinn-7-Scholar-Hasland [b 1843] William Slinn-5-Scholar-Hasland [b 1845] Cornelius's son, William, was Marjorie's GF and his wife, Elizabeth,  was Elizabeth BRAILSFORD. I notice that the SLINNs in Ashover were quite prolific, but the only  mentions of a Cornelius in Familysearch in the late 1700s-early 1800s are Cornelius/Ann and Cornelius/Sarah. If you think I can give you any helpful details, please get back to me. 3. The level of coverage of online catalogues varies enormously and some counties have very little Last year I was looking through a card index at a local archive and saw 'marriage settlement' of the person I was particularly interested in. This when ordered was more than 20 documents Telling me where he was from the Cambridge college , his father occupation and abodes, and where they family had originated from.It was actually all documents relating the the Advowson of the parish Anyway moral is there is often much more there than meets the eye. Be curious when in your archives Bob -----Original Message----- From: derbysgen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:derbysgen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Celia Renshaw Sent: 07 May 2013 17:29 To: derbysgen@rootsweb.com Subject: [DBY] A large and virtually secret gem in DRO's holdings All of us, I guess, want to think that when we discover the online catalogue for any archives in the country, that it is "comprehensive". How far from true this can be came home to me forcibly recently when on a visit to DRO in Matlock I discovered D2375 for the first time - this is the huge Harpur-Crewe archive collection, the catalogue for which is not included at all in DRO's online catalogue or A2A. Second only to the Chatsworth Devonshires, the family owned great tracts of land in Derbys, Staffs and Leics, and elsewhere. A first look at a few bundles from the collection showed me how many of my names of interest were lurking there. So I decided to write a blog article about the situation, which you can find here if you're interested: www.morgansite.wordpress.com. 1. [DBY] Brick Wall "S" for Slinn
    2. Carolyn Hastings
    3. In my husband's family of Slinns, there is listed a settlement certificate in 1766 in Hathersage (Outseats), one Cornelius Slinn, his wife Grace, and their infant daughter Ellen. Earlier in Ashover, in 1764, a marriage was recorded between a Cornelius Noble and a Grace Mather. Ancestry indexes this marriage as being for Cornelius Slinn. Cornelius Slinn is listed as having died in Ashover in 1822. Cornelius was also listed as having been born in 1744. I am wondering if anyone on the list knows how this is all connected, or how I might try to unravel the mystery? Is it fact, or is it someone's wild leap of faith that has come to be repeated as fact? thanks for any suggestions, insights, information, etc. Carolyn -- Carolyn Hastings Stow, MA USA
