Marjorie Joyce Bunting, daughter of Jack/John Bunting born 1883, death 1831, Mother Agnes Maude Hill Dear Alan and Nivard, thank you both for your response to my query for information in regards to my mother's parents. Apparently the lack of a marriage certificate for Agnes Maude and John Bunting is the "Fly in the ointment". Long story which parts have only become known to me last year courtesy of Ruth Barber from the Derbyshire Historical Society. My Mother's family was always a mystery. She left England after marriage to my father, Sylvester James McKeon and American GI from NYC. Theirs was an unhappy marriage which resulted in divorce, another story for another day. I have a copy of my Mom's birth certificate which has father as Jack Bunting, mother Agnes Maude Bunting, address 397 Uttoexeter Rd Derby. I am having difficulty navigating this thread but will blunder on. My apologies if I am not following the rules properly. Sincerely Jill McKeon. ________________________________ From: DERBYSGEN <[email protected]> on behalf of [email protected] <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 10, 2017 6:42 PM To: [email protected] Subject: DERBYSGEN Digest, Vol 12, Issue 157 Send DERBYSGEN mailing list submissions to [email protected] To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists9.rootsweb.ancestry.com/mailman/listinfo/derbysgen DERBYSGEN Info Page - Ancestry.com<http://lists9.rootsweb.ancestry.com/mailman/listinfo/derbysgen> lists9.rootsweb.ancestry.com Your email address: Your name (optional): You may enter a privacy password below. I have a John Bunting (bn 1883) on my Tree whose parents were Josiah Bunting and Louisa Bunting (nee Brough). The John that that I have was apparently born in Askem in Furness, in Lancashire, England. His father Josiah Bunting was born in 1856, in Bonsall, Derbyshire. His mother Louisa was born in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, in 1862. I am struggling at the moment to find a marriage date for 'your' John and Agnes Maud Hill. Do you know the date when they were married, and where the marriage may have taken place? It does appear that 'my' John did have a first wife (Annie Spencer), they were married on 19th October 1910, back in Bonsall, Derbyshire. I do know of one child that was born to them (Julia) who was apparently born in 1911. If you wish you can e-mail me direct. Hoping to hear from you. Hi Jill, Firstly, Nivard can always be relied upon for excellent research and scrupulous listing of what he found. So I am happy to acknowledge his earlier informative helpful contribution. The seeming absence of the record of a marriage between John BUNTING and Agnes Maude HILL does, I agree, present an interesting quandry, although intriguingly Nivard's quote from the 1939 National Identity Register quotes Agnes Maude as being 'Widowed'! Was this statement factual, or Agnes Maude's own interpretation of her status following some kind of Common Law understanding of a marriage relationship that had not been formally registered. I just wonder whether that might have been the case. However, for what it's worth at this stage, here are the somewhat bare bones (no pun intended) of the BUNTING line back from your mom Marjorie Joyce BUNTING: Marjorie Joyce BUNTING (1924 - 2001) | Father: John BUNTING (1883 - 1931) : Mother: Agnes Maude HILL | John BUNTING (1883 - 1931) = Annie SPENCER (1885 - 1912)] | Josiah BUNTING (1856 - 1912) = Louise BROUGH (1862 - 1921) | Joseph BUNTING (1823 - 1893) = Mary FROST (1827 - 1911) | Joseph BUNTING (1799 - 1875) = Alice GRATTON (1798 - 1879) | William BUNTING (1760 - 1836) = Ruth BUNTING (1761 - 1834) | William BUNTING (1733 - 1808) = Sarah SIMPSON (1732 -1801) | William BUNTING (1706 - 1777) = Sarah WOODIWISS (1704 - 1782) | David BUNTING (1666 - 1743) = Hannah ? (? - ?) | William BUNTING (1640 - 1694) = Francis ? ( ? - 1717) It is worth recording that most of the above have their birth, death, and many events inbetween, in Bonsall. I know that the BUNTING name is spread across the world, but at times it does seem that many can trace their ancestry back to Bonsall, in Derbyshire. Best wishes, Alan On 10/07/2017 11:43, jill mckeon via DERBYSGEN wrote: > Dear folks, > My mother's maiden name was Bunting. Her full name was Marjorie Joyce Bunting, born 1924, Sept 21. Hello from Australia. I have been looking back over research that I did nearly 40 years ago and trying to fill in some of the gaps. With more records becoming available on both Ancestry and FMP this has become much easier. I have been looking at Derbyshire records on FMP particularly near the border with Staffordshire. I came upon two transcripts of the same marriage between John Wain and Hannah Land on 24 May 1774. One noted the marriage place as All Saints Sudbury while the other noted it as Riddings. Genuki noted that there was no Church at Riddings until 1832 but there was a Chapel of Ease. I am assuming that the Chapel of Ease would have been part of All Saints Parish, Sudbury. Could a marriage be performed in the Chapel of Ease? If so, would there be two separate Registers? Would the marriage be entered both in the one for the Chapel of Ease and also in the one for All Saints? Can anyone please enlighten me? Regards Val Messer Qld Aus.

This is Rita in Germany....I was born at Newbold, Chesterfield but live in Germany. My maiden name was Green and there was some connection with the Buntings at Matlock. There was also a Mavis Bunting in our class at Highfield Hall School and she lived near us... we all left there about 1940.... Hi Jill He and several brothers, were born in Lancashire, but his parents were born in Bonsall and Wirksworth. He's with his parents- and 6 brothers & a sister - in the 1901 census, in Bonsall, and married to an Annie, with a baby, Julia - also in Bonsall in 1911. There are deaths for a Julia (aged 0) in 1911, and Annie (aged 27) in 1912, so it looks as if they did indeed die, and so your bet best would be to try to find descendants of those siblings, and any others... Good hunting. Margaret PS There's another older brother on the 1881 census. On 10/07/2017 11:43, jill mckeon via DERBYSGEN wrote: Dear folks, My mother's maiden name was Bunting. It is my belief due to research made on my behalf by a member or the Derbyshire Historical Society (Ruth Barber) that my grandfather Jack/John Bunting's family was from Bonsall. I did have a DNA autosomal test done and would be happy to share those results with you. I live in the USA and I have through ancestry.com connected with some members of the maternal side of my mother's family who now reside in Australia. I would love to do e! stablish a connection with the paternal side of my mother's family. I believe that Jack/John's father was Josiah and mother was Louisa Bunting of Bonsall. It appears that John had a wife and child previously to his union with Agnes Maude but both died many years before the birth of my mother in 1924. I look forward to hearing back from someone, my mom passed away in 2001 and I have no sources to find out any of her family history. Although in Leicestershire I thought some might find this of interest Someone kindly passed the following link on to me (perhaps as I was born in Leicestershire) So many were injured and died as a result after the war had ended, so they do not have a proper memorial to their efforts Good to hear this man finally will http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-40531080 -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
Thought this may be of interest to some Although in Notts its not far from the border with Derbyshire http://www2.ashfield.gov.uk/ashfieldcemeteries/index.php -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
Well, given there is anyone around to read it ;-) It seems to whizz by at a rate of knots doesn't it, but the latest series of WDYTYA starts tonight at 9pm BBc1 The first subject is Charles DANCE (Jewel in the Crown and many others) Its been fairly well publicised and promises to be a good episode Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
Yes, Jodie. I reported the issue to FS almost a week ago and received the following message (very promptly, I might add). "We apologize for the access issues that you are having to the Derbyshire Parish Records. FamilySearch is experiencing intermittent issues with numerous British and other records that are tied to one of our partners, Find My Past. FMP has re-indexed and relocated the records which is causing access problems from FamilySearch. FamilySearch is aware and is working on it as priority."
