Nivard, and all, although I first suspected some sort of phishing or hacking, I did some research and found that this isn't at all unusual. Very scary. Two articles I found interesting (but not helpful, as it seems there is no help): https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenextweb.com/facebook/2013/01/15/what-happened-when-facebook-disabled-my-account/%3famp=1 and http://www.optimizationtoday.com/social-media/what-i-learned-when-facebook-disabled-my-account/ Looks as if the only people who ever get this straightened out are high profile celebrities, such treatment isn't accorded us plebes. Hi Wendy Just to be clear, the two proofs of ID I supplied were from a list of acceptable items supplied by facebook A CC with name visible but number blanked out and a membership card, in this case for a major well known National organisation, I also supplied a copy of the photo I use as a profile picture, me at age three ! I chose those as the lesser of the risky items requested, their first list is far to risky IMHO :- Birth certificate, Driver's licence, Passport, Marriage certificate, Official name change paperwork, Personal or vehicle insurance documents, Non-driver's government ID (e.g. benefits book, national ID card), Visa, residence permit or immigration papers, Tribal identification or status card, Voter registration document, Family certificate, Visa, Proof of age card, Immigration registration document, Tax identification document I don't think I would be entrusting any of those into the safekeeping of facebook, their second list is not that much better to be honest Way back when I set up a fb account I didn't have to prove anything but used my real name (unlike the many who don't) As you say, if there was another viable alternative I would use it I thought the situation worth mentioning as most people, like me, wouldn't expect summary execution before a trial, so forewarned is forearmed Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26-Jul-17 9:16 PM, Nionon via DERBYSGEN wrote: > Nivard: > Heavens. Hi Carolyn No, not informed by email in itself, I returned to find my account disabled, and when following the procedure for trying to regain control via facebook, did I receive an email, telling me the two forms of ID I had supplied didn't match the details on my account So if a hack I am a tad baffled as to its motive, as facebook have disabled the account any hacker wouldn't be able to use it anyway What I do not understand is their refusal to identify what the problem was, ie what was this violation I am accused of, they just ignore messages I was foolishly under the assumption that you were innocent until proven guilty, it seems facebook applies the kangaroo courts of old Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26-Jul-17 11:32 PM, Carolyn Hastings via DERBYSGEN wrote: > I agree with Mike -- if you were informed by email, and then followed links > provided by the notice in the email, it was probably definitely a hack. > > Carolyn Hastings > Madison AL, and sometimes Clinton Ma and Norfolk, VA

Thanks for yours Mike The reason for having my account disabled is a mystery (to me at least) All it says is :- Why was my account disabled? Your account was disabled for violating the Facebook Terms. Our Policies Your account must list your authentic name. Personal accounts must represent individual people only. It's a violation of our policies to use a personal profile to represent anything other than yourself (ex: celebrities, pets, ideas, objects, etc.). Impersonating anyone or anything is not allowed. Maintaining multiple accounts is a violation of our policies. Accounts created for the purpose of spamming or harassing others are strictly prohibited. All of which I comply with The part I simply don't understand is why there was no warning and why they refuse to tell me what the problem was I have followed the links from that you posted but apparently its not good enough You would think two proofs of identity and a photograph would be enough but not according to facebook There does not appear to be any facility for talking to anyone, by email, phone or ironically facebook Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26-Jul-17 9:04 PM, Mike Morris via DERBYSGEN wrote: > Nivard, is there any chance it was not Facebook but some other spiteful party? . Sorry its a long post but it may affect you so bear with me The lists in general are quiet with few exceptions, this list also suffers from lack of posts, there are various reasons why this is happening, one being the plethora of other avenues to communicate One major avenue is facebook Rather than sit twiddling my thumbs, and on the premise that if you can't beat 'em join 'em, I joined facebook a fair time ago I joined various groups and have hopefully helped a fair few along the way Last Friday I returned to my computer to find my facebook account had been disabled, no warning of any kind The message says "Your account was disabled for violating the Facebook Terms." it gives a list of things which violate their terms, mainly it refers to having to use your real name I have no idea specifically what they are talking about and despite several attempts they will not tell me, I use my real name and details so have not a clue what they refer to I have followed the links to try and regain my account, part of which is supplying scans of things such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, passport etc OR giving two scans of such as a credit card or membership etc Given I wouldn't trust facebook with a birth cert I elected to use the second option, no not good enough according to facebook I sent a copy of the photo of me that I use as a profile photo, still not good enough So I am still excommunicated from facebook nearly a week later I have no idea what I may have done to deserve this, nor do I know if I will ever regain access So I am just highlighting what could be a problem for you if they should disable your account without warning Facebook is the only way I have (had) contact with some family members and friends So if you rely on facebook for your contact and communication you may want to think about the repercussions for your situation -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

Hi Lin Sadly its something I can't change There are some glitches at present in the system Your problem has been reported by others but no cure has been forthcoming so far It appears to be the way some ISPs are handling mail which is making it difficult to distribute for Rootsweb Hopefully it will be rectified in due course You should also find the posts in the archives if thats easier I am also sending this direct as it appears some of my own posts aren't getting through (just to make life more complicated) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 22-Jul-17 7:21 PM, Lcsearch3528--- via DERBYSGEN wrote: > Hi, Just recently I am having to open incoming emails by clicking on a link > rather than simply showing them as it usually does, and when I do open one > it opens in Outlook which I have never used. Hi folks Those who receive in digest form, when replying could you please edit the subject line to the relevant subject line for the post you are replying to If you check the archives you will see why, three posts are unattached to any previous post, so anyone checking the archives wouldn't have a clue these three were part of a thread So for example, delete the DERBYSGEN Digest, Vol 12, Issue 168 And replace with the subject as relevant such as WDYTYA Clare BALDING (in two cases) Thank you Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 21-Jul-17 2:41 PM, Marie ball via DERBYSGEN wrote: > > >> Today's Topics: >> >> 1. The latest episode in this series is on Clare BALDING I hope its better than it sounds Clare Balding is the latest celebrity to go in search of her roots, and she is particularly interested in her maternal great-grandfather. Clare believes he could have been gay, but getting to the truth of the matter proves a challenge when all the evidence comes from a time when homosexuality was illegal.
