    1. Re: [DBY] My Heritage Data Correction
    2. Bob Butler
    3. That is a very surprising reply because My Heritage has a reputation for not being helpful - normally the opposite (and some things much worse). Generally the information in the trees on their site is a million times worse than other sites such as Family Search and Ancestry. It would be interesting to hear if this does get corrected or not. Bob Butler -----Original Message----- From: DERBYSGEN [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of meg--- via DERBYSGEN Sent: 07 August 2017 09:36 To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: [DBY] My Heritage Data Correction I was wandering around in cyberspace as you do and happened upon the MyHeritage website and was quite surprised to find myself on there, dead. With a name like Magdalen Galley there are not exactly a lot of us so I was in no doubt it was me. Whoever had posted had mixed me up with my mother named Joan Peach (you can see why they might be confused!) and hence I died in 1998. I am not a member of this site and had no desire to join but I contacted them via their contacts page and told them the problem and asked for the information to be removed and the person who had posted it to be told they were a b****y awful researcher as my correct year of birth was also shown on the same page. Within 24 hours I had a reply from a named person with a request for the URL and/or a screenshot of the erroneous data including instructions on how to do this. I supplied both yesterday (Sunday) and this morning had a nice thank you and an assurance the information would be removed within 48 hours but if I checked after that and it was still there, to get back in touch. We hear a lot of stories about problems getting errors corrected so just thought I would give credit where it is due. 2. Hi everyone Thank you to all of you who have responded to me, much appreciated. You have reassured me and I will follow your advice. Once again the group has been so helpful. The problems I have seen reported about installing 2017 appear to be more user issues than anything else - however I found the process both simple and painless. 2017 is almost identical to 2014 with the addition of a couple of new features so if you were happy with 2014 you should have no problems with 2017 - I would highly recommend it. However, if you are still a little nervous about it - do a full back up of your existing tree prior to downloading 2017 so that you have something to revert back to if you do not like it or have problems. Also it is possible to export a 2014 version and / or a GEDCOM from 2017 which you can do from time to time as you make changes to your tree. In addition you could revert back to your older FTM version and download your tree from Ancestry should you have problems with 2017. As you have already paid for the upgrade you have nothing to lose by giving it a go. 3. Hi all I thought I would just update you on my problem re facebook Having followed all their requests for proof of ID and photo and still they say it doesn't match my details on my original account, then they simply didn't reply to any further input, so I gave up on that account I created a new one yesterday, joined one group, friended wife and a few nieces Less than 24 hours later that one is locked out as well It was not possible to use the 3 to 5 friends to confirm your account as I didn't get the chance before being blocked I have uploaded a copy of a photo as they requested, the wording was rather worrying to my way of thinking "Please upload a photo of yourself that clearly shows your face" The question I would ask, is how are they going to check that photo as I did not upload any to this new account If you use facebook, you may want to take a few precautions, lest it should happen to you There is a facility to download your own facebook data, I am unsure what format that is as I didn't get time to do it I would suggest making a copy of your friends list and a list of the groups you are currently in If like me you have your account disabled, you cannot then access it to take copies after it happens, so forewarned is forearmed Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 26-Jul-17 8:37 PM, Nivard Ovington wrote: > > Sorry its a long post but it may affect you so bear with me > > The lists in general are quiet with few exceptions, this list also > suffers from lack of posts, there are various reasons why this is > happening, one being the plethora of other avenues to communicate

    3. Having now seen last nights WDYTYA, not knowing who Emily Willis was or anything about her, so not too optimistic that I would find it interesting, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought she came over as a nice, caring person who was really interested to find out about her roots. The look on her face as she caressed the marble carved out by her ancestor was a joy to behold and it was an interesting story bringing the situation in Ireland at the time to life. I felt a similar pleasure for Charles Dance when he was presented by a relative with a large Diary which had been kept from way back by a previous ancestor. What an amazing thing to have, I would be over the moon to have one like that. Wouldn't we all? Great to see someone get that lucky! I do agree that too much appears like magic without detailed explanations about the research though, I suppose it has to fit in to the hour, shame. I couldn't agree more Joy Do as you darn well pleasy ;-) I would usually watch WDYTYA on the night of transmission, then watch it again the next day as I found you pick up things you missed on the first watching So far this series I have only watched the Charles Dance episode the next day, the others weren't interesting enough to warrant a second viewing I did watch the whole of Adil Ray but found it so much based on hearsay that you couldn't really take it seriously But this conversation just proves we all see interest in different things and what interests one doesn't interest another Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 04-Aug-17 4:42 PM, Joy Hungerford via DERBYSGEN wrote: > At least you tried with Adil Ray, Nivard. > > I must admit that with Clare Balding, whom I dislike, and Emma Thingy, of whom I had not heard, > > I made no effort at all. > > Mind you, as a somewhat ancient Derbyshire girl, I does as I pleases. > > > Kind regards > > Joy
