Many thanks, Mike. Nice to see confirmation of the early CUTTS. I take it that Alice GILL of Beighton rather than Brighton? Does anyone know more about the Henry Smith of Worksop and his relations please? This surname bugs me through generations of Cutts and it would be nice to know how early they were linked. Dear list Some time ago members gave the sites of their favourite maps. I thought that I had saved the details but where they are I know not. I have tried the archives but don't seem to find them there either. I think that age has something to do with the problem of me not remembering or being able to find!! Would very much appreciate being reminded and will try and not be too careless in the future. Many thanks Richard
Guy Thank you This looks a definite possibility especially as the man writing was posh and could have pronounce howitzer as housea :-) Peter On 16 Nov 2012, at 12:59, Guy Etchells wrote: > On 16/11/2012 10:07, Peter Patilla wrote: >> "housea tenders" > Could it be howitzer tenders (Gun Carriers Mk I) "small" tank like > vehicles that could carry a 60 pounder field gun or a 6" howitzer, which > were supposed to be able to be fired on the gun carrier or dismounted > and fired from the ground. > Cheers > Guy > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to DERBYSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Judging by a cursory look at FreeBMD, RIDDELL seems to be a name that is to be found predominantly in the North-East of England. I can see no birth registration for an Augustus. Was he even born in England? -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg

I can find nothing for a birth of an Augustus Reginald between 1855 and 1865. Could Augustus have been born before his mother married? He'd be registered under her name. Nor can I find a marriage for a Moses. What other spellings of the name have you tried? Have you tried FamilySearch? What sources have you used? Where did your information come from? You might find Rootschat or a general list such as GenBrit a better idea since you don't have any firm locations or dates yet. RIDDELL doesn't seem to be specific to any one county. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
