Hello to the list I am looking for some information on a factory which was owned by the Wright family who lived in Allestree, I believe it was a leather factory Any help gratefully received Aileen Nobody ever climbed a mountain by saying 'I can't'
Hi Wayne, Ancestry have the England & Wales Criminal Registers 1791-1892 and I have found two records for whom I think is your George: Midsummer 1830 at Derby George RAYNOR 6 months for Larceny Midsummer 1831 at Derby George RAYNOR 14 years Transportation for Larceny before convicted of Felony They also have 2 Convict Indent record images: Bound Indentures 1832-33 Civil case 28 June 1831 at Derby, arrived 8 June 1832 at Sydney Cove RAYNOR George, aged 27, Family 1, County of Derby, Stocking Weaver, Offence stealing of flour, Died at Hunters River at his Masters Mr John BELL report 24 October 1833 (Don't know whether that means his Master was Mr John BELL or the report was by Mr John BELL!) Annotated Printed Indentures 1832 Civil case 28 June 1831 at Derby, arrived 8 June 1832 at New South Wales George RAYNOR, 27, Protestant, Married, Family 1, County of Derby, Stocking Waver, Stealing Flour, etc. The latter Indenture also gives physical details, so it could be worth your while to either take out a pay as you go subscription to Ancestry or see if you can access the records through your local Library and take copies of the actual records which appear under Ancestry's Australian section. There are also a couple of other documents pertaining to your George soon after he arrived. Hope this helps Janet I wonder if anyone is researching the RAYNOR family tree in Derbyshire, and found GEORGE RAYNOR from Heanor, probably Loscoe, living in the 1800-1831 period. GEORGE RAYNOR was born around 1804 and married Rebecca (Parkin?). Don't know the marriage date. They had a son JOHN together in 1830, Loscoe. [Rebecca had children by other father(s) in the 1835-1844 period and married EDWARD THORPE in 1845] I believe GEORGE RAYNOR was a framework knitter and had at least 3 convictions for vandalism/theft :- 1824, 1825 and 1831, for the last of which he was deported to Australia on a ship called The JOHN arriving in Sydney in June 1832. He died in Australia in the parish of Invermein in October 1833 aged 29. Don't know the cause of death at this stage.

I have in my line Betty Garlick (d/o Samuel Garlick and Deborah Harrison). Betty was born 15 April 1798 in Hadfield. There is a marriage recorded in Glossop between John Wood of Glossop and Betty Garlick of Glossop on 25 Jun 1821 (both signed), Witnesses: W Poole, John Hadfield. Betty and John can be found in the 1841 census living between Samuel Dearnaley and John Swindells and in 1851 living next door to her father, Samuel Garlick in Hadfield. I believe that John Wood was the son of Martin Wood and Hannah Garlick (thanks to Graham H). I also believe that Hannah was the daughter of Robert Garlick and Mary Broadbent. My question is: does anyone know anything further about Martin Wood? TIA Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia

There is an excellent reference to Wrights on the Wirksworth site - they manufactured wines and spirits. I think that is the project I took part in several years ago. 2003 (date on the note on John's web site) would probably be about right. I sent off my sample and have heard nothing from the organisers since - though I do seem to recall hearing something about them running out of funding. You can find in older registers, usually in a separate section, many collections and disbursements such as the ones above. It may give an idea who was about at the time. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm

Thanks again Mike, lovely to have a run of these early extracts. BUTLERS, AWCOCK (later Al(l)cock), BARKER, BARBER, HEATH, CROFT, who may be significant in later BUTLER/CUTTS researches further towards Nottingham... Now for a lot of back tracking in notes to see if I can find more.
