    1. Re: [DBY] Duplicate baptism records?
    2. Nivard Ovington
    3. Hi Joan I would be checking the originals, it could be a transcription or marking error (ie the wrong parish assigned to one of them) Or the incumbent of one stood in at the other and made notes, they were transferred by a clerk who took them to be in one or other parish But the key would be checking the original PRs in each parish PS I have come across it several times and the above was the answer in most cases Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 02-Sep-16 2:23 PM, Joan M wrote: > Hi, > > I appear to have identical baptism dates but at totally different places > (using England, Select Births and Christenings). 3. Hi, I appear to have identical baptism dates but at totally different places (using England, Select Births and Christenings). For example Job Heapy, baptised 08 Jan 1786, father Job - I have this record both at Kirk Ireton and also at Long Eaton and this duplication also applies to several of his siblings. Kirk Ireton and Long Eaton are approx 22 miles apart so I would be surprised if they travelled from one to the other on the same day. I can't believe that there are two Job Heapys, naming their children the same and baptising them on the same day. Am I missing something?? Joan

Good evening Having recently moved from Crich to Whatstandwell (same parish) I thought I ought to involve myself in “matters Whatstandwell” I have volunteered to look after and develop the www.whatstandwell.org website and have made a start sorting this out and adding informative data. So, if your family history takes you to the Whatstandwell, Crich Carr, Coddington, Thurlow Booth, Alderwasley area you might find something of interest – although it is very early days and I am adding new stuff regularly. Let me know if you have any useful information to add to the site I will not be neglecting my www.crichparish.co.uk site! Peter

    3. Thank you so much to everyone who has offered help and suggestions. It looks as though my Moses Garlick was born in the schoolhouse in Bugsworth after all as was his sister Zipporah. By the time Moses was born there must have been 8 people living in the schoolhouse and from the look of it now, it must have been quite a squash. Given that the family were strict Methodist, nipping out to the pub for a bit of "peace and quiet" was not an option! Must press on with the next chapter in the family saga. 3. Hi Lynne It appears that Derby Hall was an area or terrace of houses, rather than a single building In 1851 there are the following enumerated Basin Navigation Inn Bugsworth Hall (2 x dwellings) Bugsworth cottages (3 x dwellings) Derby Hall (8 x dwellings) Top Moore Waterside The 8 dwellings enumerated Derby Hall are three unoccupied, of the others they are mostly labourers, lime kiln workers etc, the most qualified being a letter carrier I would hazard a guess Derby Hall may be the row next to the church Unfortunately the census on findmypast does not have the enumeration description easily available which may help to determine the location in relation to other named places (first page of an enumeration section) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 22/07/2016 00:39, Lynne Simpson via wrote: > Hello the list > > > > I am deep into writing up my own Derbyshire history and I would really > appreciate some help. > > > > My 3xg grandfather James had a brother Moses who was born at Derby Hall when > his father was schoolmaster in Bugsworth. 3. I notice that Bugsworth Hall was close to Derby Knowl and wondered if “Derby Hall” referred to it. The maps site I use, which often links direct to the National Library of Scotland site, is www.oldmapsonline.org, which doesn’t require any subscription: I had a quick look (am intrigued - hope any Derbyshire folk know the answer) and only managed to spot Bugsworth Hall. Good luck! Nickie

    3. Hello Lynne At the 1851 census there was an area of Bugsworth called Derby Hall containing several families - WALKER; JOHNSON; VARNON (VERNON); YATES and BENNETT, none of whom are listed as schoolteachers. Assuming the census is in geographical order the enumerator appears to have travelled from Brierley Green down to the Navigation Inn, taken in Bugsworth Hall and then gone up towards Silk Hill - the BENNETT family were given the address of Derby Hall but also of Lime Kilns which were at the Navigation end. The original school was at the foot of Silk Hill. The address Derby Hall seems not to have been used in the 1861 census with Barren Clough and Wheston covering the probable area with a couple of families being shown as Silk Hill. Also the enumerator followed a different route coming over from Whitehough. When we lived in Bugsworth/Buxworth - from about 1968 to 1972 - we lived on Western Lane but the area was also known as Barren Clough. If you let me know the surname you are researching I probably have more information. best wishes Marjorie Ward Derbyshire, UK Sources for Disley; Lyme Handley; Taxal & Whaley www.disley.net Sources for NWDby incl Chapel; Charlesworth; Chinley; Fernilee; Glossop; Hayfield; Hope Valley; Mellor & New Mills http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dusk John Ward Paintings: www.johnward-art.com
