    3. 1709 David Hugh, an early settler in Merion, died 1709.  He was on the List of Taxables for 1693.  a young man.  Susq. 1696. In 1696, he married Martha, daughter of Ralph Lewis.  Children, David, Ruth, John, Mary, Samuel, Caleb. This Ralph Lewis was a brother  of William Lewis, who with his wife Ann came from the parish of Illan, Glamorganshire, Wales, and settled in Haverford, 1686.  William's son David married Ann Jones of Merion, 1695.  Other sons Lewis, Evan, Wm., dau. Seaborn. Ralph Lewis and wife Mary, from Illan, Glamorganshire, came to Haverford with John Bevan, 1694.  Ralph and Mary Lewis had children:  - Mary, who married James Sharpless;  Lydia, who m. Joseph Sharpless;  Abraham, who m. Mary, daughter of Anthony Morgan;  Thomas, who m. Jane, daughter of Rees Meredith of Radnor;  Sarah, who m. William, son of Richard Walter of Merion;  Samuel, who m. Phebe, daughter of Josiah Taylor of Marple.  Ralph Lewis died about 1711;  his wife, 1704. David Hugh of Merion and Martha Lewis of Haverford, at the Meeting Place of Haverford, 4 Mo. 9, 1696. David Lewis of Haverford, Chester Co. batchelor, and Ann Jones of Merion, spinster, "at the meeting house in Merion", 10 Mo. 7, 1695. James Sharples, of Nether Providence, Chester Co. and Mary Lewis of Darby, dau. of Ralph of the same Co. at Haverford Meeting House, 12 Mo. 20, 1699 -1700.  Wit:  John, John (2), Jane and Hannah Sharples; Ralph, Wm., David, Abraham, Evan, Lewis, Evan, Wm., and Ann Lewis. David Lewis was a member of the Assembly, 1689.  He had bros. Lewis, Evan, Wm. 8, 9, 1711. Thomas Lewis, son of Ralph of Haverford, dec'd and Jane Meredith, dau. of Rees Meredith of Radnor, at Radnor Meeting H.  Wit:  Ralph, Abraham, Samujel and Evan Lewis;  John, William and Meredith Meredith. 3, 30, 2704.  Joseph Sharples of Nether Providence, yeoman, and Lydia Lewis of Haverford, spinster, at Haverford Meeting.  Wit:  John, James, Caleb, Joseph and Hannah Sharpless;  Ralph, Abraham, Samuel, Evan, Wm., David and Wm. Lewis. Will of David Hugh, proved June 9, 1709.  Mentions wife Martha.  Children, David, Ruth, Mary, Jonathan, Samuel, Caleb.  Overseers, father-in-law, Ralph Lewis;  Cousins David Lewis, William Lewis and Lewis David.  Witnesses, David Lawrence, Thos. James, Robt. Jones, Henry Lawrence. Wm. Lewis (bro. of Ralph) had a son Lewis, who m. Mary Powell of Bristol; and a son Evan, who m. Mary, dau. of Jonathan Hayes.  Wm. 3r son, m. Gwen Jones of Gwynnedd. 4, 9, 1686.  Witnesses to the marriage of David Hugh of Merion, and Margaret Lewis of Haverfo0rd:  Ralph, Abraham, Samuel, Evan, William, David, John, Mary, Lydia and Ann Lewis; Richard Walter. Witnesses to the marriage of David Lewis and Ann Jones.  10, 7, 1695.  Wm., Lewis, Evan, Abram, Mary and Martha Lewis;  Edward, Edward (2), and Thomas Jones. The name of David Hugh is on Dr. George Smith's "Map of Early Settlements in Delaware County".  David Hugh is located in Haverford,on Cobb Creek, near the borders of Lower Merion and Darby townships.
