    3. Hi Paula, The information I have is that the parents of John Ward Davis were probably William Davis and Margaret Ward. My information also says that his maternal grandfather was John Ward and that he inherited his property from that grandfather. Information from a family chart I found in the Historical Society of Cecil County says that his mother was Margaret Ward and that she died in 1825. Census information says that John Ward Davis's father and mother were both born in Delaware, my guess is around 1800. There must have been a will for John Ward to leave the property to his grandson - I just need to get it. I have the following: John Ward Davis was identified as the owner of "Ward's Knowledge" in the Lake, Griffing & Stevenson county atlas of 1877. Source: "At the Head of the Bay" p. 296. DEATH: John Ward Davis, Sr. John Ward Davis, Sr., died at his home near Cecilton on May 27, 1907,aged 83 years. Mr. Davis was a native of the First District, having been born on the Davis farm where he resided all his life. He followed farming successfully, and was interested in all public matters. In politics he was a Democrat, and in 1867 was elected to the House of Delegates. He was survived by three sons, to whom he made the following bequests: To John Ward Davis he bequeathed the Price farm of 307 acres; to Edgar J. Davis the Cash Corner farm; to William B. Davis the Pearce farm, and to Frances W. Davis and Mary Ellen Davis, daughters of William B. Davis, the Home farm, which was to be managed by their father until they reached the age of 21 years. Cecil County News 5/29/1907. Any information you might run across that would tie this William Davis in with one of the local Davis families from MD or DE would be very interesting. I have a hunch that he might be part of the Isaac Davis of Milford, DE descendants but haven't quite made the connection yet.
