These are a bit hard to read, but if you had people in Kent Co... As far as I can tell, they're listed alphabetically by year. Kent County Pauper Books A register of the infirm and poor inmates of the county almshouse. Deaths and births are also included. http://www.state.de.us/sos/dpa/exhibits/document/kcpauperbooks/index.shtml
Thanks, Debbie. That was a fascinating read. I did find a creditor named John Maghee and son who provided shingles but no poor/sick/crazy/crippled Magee's, thank heaven. The folks I'm looking for have turned up in New Castle Co. and Sussex Co. though. I've found them on censuses but what I need are documents that would link one or the other to our James Tully Magee, b. 1784. I've been looking in what probate and Orphan's Court records I've been able to access without much luck...did find an order for sale of land for a Samuel Magee, married to Eleanor, so I think that is one of them but unfortunately no children were named in that record. However, there is undocumented reference (from a family tree online) to their having a son named James T. Magee. We also have some evidence from probate and church records that a Thomas McGee, of New Castle Co., may have married a widow Elizabeth McIntire Allen in 1774 but no definite proof that he is James's father either, except that a Robert Allen died and left a legacy to his half brother James T. Magee, minor, in 1791. But family lore has it that my ggg grandfather was named Thomas and that he married a "Scot"...so that's been our closest hit so far. I appreciate your taking time to write with that link. It was interesting to say the least....hard times back then even for the healthy folks and especially hard for those with ill health. Thanks again. Connie Magee Rinaldi Debbie wrote: > These are a bit hard to read, but if you had people in Kent Co...
