    1. Old Swedes, HOLTON in Newcastle Co and in southern NJ
    2. E Johnson
    3. Can someone comment a little more about the relationship over the years, between the people of part-Swedish ancestry who lived near Raccoon (Swedesboro) in Salem Co, NJ --and those who lived in Delaware around the Swedish Lutheran Holy Trinity (Old Swedes) and upper Delaware areas?? It makes sense that people in Delaware might migrate to Chester Co. PA, but why would there be so much moving back and forth across the Delaware River?? Please look at this family from Pencader and St George's and Red Lion --seem to have lived near the borders of all of these. This is one family who may have been back and forth between DE and NJ a few times in a few hundred years. HOLTEN, HOLTON, HALTON, probably orig, of New Sweden, lived in each state at various times. Many wills and land docs from colonial NJ show this name; need help connecting to ours. I am looking for the parents of the man shown here: Spencer HOLTON and son, Spencer S (Sewell or 'Suel') HOLTON. 1830 > DELAWARE > NEW CASTLE > PENCADER Series: M19 Roll: 12 Page: 78 Spencer HOLTON Males 5-10, one (Spencer Sewell); " 10- 15, one; 15- 20, two; 40-50, one (Spencer HOLTON, head). Females 5 10, two; 10- 15, one; 30- 40 one ; - 70, one. Slave, male, 1-- 24, one. Spencer HOLTON d. about 1870. Spencer HOLTON's wife, Mary Anne ELIASON, should be about 22 yrs old; born 1809-- this is probably a typo. The son, Spencer Sewell HOLTON is probably the "S.S. Holten" listed as Town Commissioner for 1877 and 1884 --Middletown, St George's Hundred, Newcastle Co., Delaware. (see Scarf, History of Delaware). He married Mary Frances ELLISON 1839-1928; they appear in Middletown in 1910 Census: Spencer S. HOLTON, age 72. living with wife, Mary F, age 69, and daughter May or Mary May, age 30, on Cass St, in Middletown, DE. His son, Curtis Bennet HOLTEN, married Ellen DALE (1874-1949) of Odessa. This couple had 5 girls and one son, lived in DE, then near Philadelphia, and finally in Clemonton in what was then Camden County, NJ. The daughters married and had families in southern NJ, near Haddonfield and the surrounding areas. ELLISON, ELIASON and HOLTON all appear in Scharf's. There were several ministers and also schoolteachers in this family. Have more family info if anyone wants to see these or can help with this. Thank you Liz J
