I am very interested in your question and I hope you get some answers! My greatgrandfather, Arthur McCloskey, does not appear in DE1900 census although he did not die until 1909. His wife Ellen is listed as Head of Household. Because he had TB we think he might have been in an institution in Philadelphia. I hope someone answers your query.
