    3. I'd try the Historical Society, and Recreation/Park Department. You also could go surfing for Historical Markers; years ago, I found a marker online in Tallahassee, FL. If I had a chance to go to Wilmington, I'd go to Holy Trinity Church (aka "Old Swedes"). I think it was founded sometime around 1730, which I would imagine makes it among the oldest surviving masonry buildings/continuous churches in the US. It's also seen several religions. (Of course I did have an ancestor who twice married there;) I think they have a web site. They also have a whole bunch of old records, some of which are now on FTM CD. I believe there is an adjacent cemetery.
